I have always wondered something and I have saw where other people have wondered the same thing..so i just figured that i would be another that ask this question...I have heard from a few people that you have to have at least four lines before mylot will credit you and pay you for each post..is this true or isn't it..how does it work?

I don't think anyone really know for sure about the four line thing, you do get a point even if you don't have four lines from what I have seen but whether it is an advantage to have four lines and four tags remains a mystery, i just think if more word and the tags helps Mylot in a way to bring in more money to pay people then that is good anyway, after all if they don't make any money then they cant pay anyone, i am not sure if it helps but maybe it does...

No one seems to know much about the earning really as from what I have read it is a very complex system but the tags must be for a reason, if it helps Mylot or ourselves it is a good thing to do, I was told when I joined by other members that it is good to put in four tags....

I don't know about four lines being the trick, but I do know I'm doing pretty good and I'm very 'wordy'. I tell everyone to put something into the discussion, not just post one/two word answers just for the sake of posting. I'm more than satisfied with what I've been able to do here since joining just over a week ago. The discussions and interaction with friends, both old and new, are great.

MyLot have always stressed that it is 'quality' not 'quantity'. Nobody knows what algorithm they use to determine quality. I can think of several criteria I might use to arrive at a 'quality' figure - length of words; length of sentences; occurrence of words in the post that match words in the tags or question; a letter count which would compare with letter frequencies in standard English, for example. All of these are entirely possible. All we really know is that whatever formulae are used, Crash has said that he is confident that it gives accurate and meaningful results. The correct answer to your question would be to write just as much or as little as is needful to be descriptive as possible in answering the question. If a question is a good one, it deserves more than just a few words. If it is not, or you have nothing substantial to say, leave it alone. There are MANY discussions here which are worthy of a good response. Make it your business to only answer the ones on which you are prepared to spend some time.

Very interesting question. I am relatively new here, and have yet to hear that. I have heard the more imformative you are in a response the more you will get paid. I was never told you had to have at least four lines of post to be able to earn something. I too would like the know the answer to this. I hope you find the true answer soon.

Even i got to hear this from others. Dont know how far its true... However, i am here to look at the discussions. I even heard few other things: -upload pics and earn more -reply to ur friends posts -rate others posting -be regular and active -avoid 1 liners like "thank u" or "sorry" These are a few of them that i heard from others... Anyways, all the best buddy!

I don't think that's true. Quality matters over quantity. Some people can convey more in less words while other people simply can't. People have different styles.

It is not really as you said, every post that you post mylot will pay you (unless that post against TOS); but how much is depends on how length of your post and mylot called it is quality of your post. So you can say the more letters you put in your post the more cents you will get. I think if 5 lines is about 1cent.

Have you seen Crash's discussion at http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1402356.aspx ? I think now, myLot pays for overall participation - literally. So it doesn't matter how many lines per post you have or where you post your words, myLot takes into account all your activity. Don't ask me the details lol... I would love to know too.:P

MyLot takes great pains to ensure their algorithm remains a secret. I can tell you that I have been paid out twice, even though my post count is so low. I tend to be a bit wordy, plus I try to mix the type of discussions I put up. Best idea I can offer is, make sure you find a good mix of short and long postings. Whether you're starting or replying, give a bit of thought and try for a few sentences, like 3 or 4. Also, if you have a digital camera, it is really easy to take advantage of the extra earning for adding a photo to a discussion. I often will stage something to get a good picture. Just remember to keep it relevant to the discussion.

damaged bamboo on campus - this bamboo was damaged by heavy snow in early February this year.
Hello dear jhl. I think that it is true indeed based on my own experience because sometimes if my response or discussion is a lengthy one, it seems that the earnings is higher than a shorter response that I have had. So I think that every experienced mylotter would agree with me on this point.

Hello again, my dear friend. I am so sorry for this photo to be here in the wrong place. It is supposed to go to another discussion of my friend's. Hope that you won't mind.

Yes you need to make your discussions and responses at least 4 sentences long. Otherwise it wouldn't take much effort to post and then why would mylot pay you the same as someone who is putting a lot of effort into theirs. If you read all the guideline rules you would already know this. It is stated very plainly there. I think you might want to take out some time from your postings and read the guidelines so that you are earning the maximum amount you can and to make sure you don't break any rules. I checked out every single link in this site when I first signed up and before I even started working it, because I wanted to know everything about it before I wasted my time working it, incase it was just another scam site. I also go back once in awhile and read the guidelines again, just to refresh my memory.

From the discussions on this subject here, I understood that the calculation is made with very many variables. It's a function like this one: $$$=f(x1, x2, x3, x4, ..., xn) Well, nobody knows exactly just how many variables there are or which is the most important, but from my point of view, the length of the post is one of the top 5 variables they take into account...if not among the first 3. On the other hand, if you write too long replies, you risk to be boring, and people would not read everything you write. So, I think it's good to keep a minimum of 3 or 4 lines in every reply.

I am not sure if it is true but I would say it would be better to be detailed and make your post as lengthy as you can. I always remind the rules: discussion or response should be in detailed. I do believe you can not make a detailed response if it will be only 1 sentence.
