Ideas for a 3rd Grade Science Project

Of course, we just found out that my daughter needs to do a science project - completed and displayed for school next Thursday. Yup March 6, less than one week away. She can do it on almost anything. Animals, plants, engergy, geology. She claims she knew nothing about it before. I just don't see how that's possible. Although, today was the first day we ever saw anything about it. So, any ideas for a low cost but incredibily easy science project that earned someone a good grade? I know - that's a lot to ask for.

when I was in second grade I won first place in the science fain in Guam. My project was entitle "How do I make my heart beat faster?" I listed exercises to be done for the week, each done for a hole minute, and counted my pulse for a whole minute, i compared them to my pulse at rest. you could add up facts on how blood goes through the heart, you could also add up the having your heart beat faster is great cardio work out and conclude what exercise made the heart beat fastest. the judges then asked me what exercise could I recommend for them. Well they were kind of old, and back then I always thought old people had heart attacks while exercising, so i told them to walk for exercise.

you should also practice her with the things she;s gonna say, although my project was simple, it was my delivery that got the judges to award me... other projects were paint made out of petals, and others. I beat a lot of 3rd graders to 8th graders.

I did a science project i think when i was in the third grade and i really remember it and it was actually a good one...it was where you put a boiled egg ontop of a bottle(where the tip of it was a little smaller than the bottom of the egg)and before you do that you put viniger in the bottle and see if the viniger will suck the air out and make the egg go down into the bottle by iteslf..and it really did..i got an a

That sounds cool - I think I want to do that even if she doesn't want to.

I guess it is too late for me to give an idea now as today is the 6th of march - what did she decide to do it on? let us know how the fair went.

All projects were due today and the science fair is tonight. We'll all go check them out this evening. My son's 5th grade teacher was impressed when we walked by this morning with her project. He went - Hummmm, wow a Speaker Magnet project. Then I thought, oh no, what about my son's project, I hope the teacher doesn't think it was too easy for him. He tested the conductivity of different items with an open circuit. At least he did it mostly by himself. I'll let you know the results later :)

When I was in elementary, I did a project about how gravity affects the way plants grow. The site below is an "stripped down" version of what I did, but I had a lot of fun with it http://www.all-science-fair-projects.com/science_fair_projects/50/614/d73e6f9a73 -Feel Free to Disagree!

If for any reason, you are still interested in the link, this link works, and this site has other science fair project ideas. http://www.all-science-fair-projects.com/project614_50.html -Feel Free to Disagree

Check out this magazine familyfun.com. I subscribe to it and it alwasy has good stuff like this - the last page is always a quickie/tricky little experiment the kids can do and then it tells the reason for it.

u can explain hydro electricity wid a small pool kinda model wid a rotator on its end which is connected to a bulb.. while the bulb is actually connected to battery on the other side which is not seen.. this is pretty easy to make too...

what about an electromagnet, all you need are batteries, a toggle switch, a very big nail/small pipe, copper wire and thumbtacks... place it on a hard base like an illustration board or a thin ply wood. Its easy to make and its advance for her age. its easy to look for online... there are also a lot of physics magic tricks that would be a swell science project.
