Today is payday.

So my husband gets paid today and I am not even excited about it. I used to love paydays and we used to go out and spend some money on us, a treat. But these days payday doesn't mean anything anymore since most of it goes out just as fast as it came in, paying bills. There is not very much left over to go out and treat ourselves. How about you? Is it payday today and are you excited about it? Do you go out and treat yourselves on payday? Or are you like us, not being able to afford to do anything extra? Do tell your story and share it with the rest of us.

We have bills, but we have a set budget so that we can still go out and have fun. Sometimes the beginning of month is tight for us because the vast majority of our bills are due between the 1st and 5th. Thankfully, I get paid weekly so it is not that big of a deal. I am really excited this month because of the tax refund we are getting rid of 3 bills we would normally have to pay. That won't free up any money but we will be able to redistribute it to other bills to pay those off sooner.

Today is not my payday though it will be on the 5th and the 20th of the month but I am not even excited too. The more you have money earned the more you will have bills to pay. I am really wondering why it's like that. One reason maybe I am not earning that much to sustain all the things I want and I really am not asking money from my parents anymore. I am wondering how I can save money with this kind of situation.

Read my blog (Link in my profile) called Coffee Break Whatever Save Money and you'll find some great and easy and totally workable ways to save money - anybody can do it, find money you didn't know you had, where to find money and how to save it. Most are from personal experience when I learned to do these things just to make ends meet, not save anything! Now, I do them and can save it. So I am passing on to hopefully help others in the tight money situation. And you have to remember too..it isn't in how much you MAKE, it is how much you SPEND. You can't increase how much you make, but you can decrease how much you spend. Good luck and hope you find a way to work it out. Also remember, if you don't buy it, you won't have that bill.....

Hi Chris, I think I responded to one of yours earlier so here I am again. Why don't we twist this all around and say that now that you are a member of myLot you must get excited about your earnings here. Lets just say that you get so excited about your pay here that your husbands doesn't matter anymore lol. Yeah bills are depressing. I think that's why I strayed away from trying to mention them. I don't wanna think about mine.

I also don't get excited about paydays. The money I get from salary is too small to pay bills. My husband send his salary from overseas work, but again its not enough with the so many bills to pay and my sons's and household expenses. But although we are on tight budget, we still find time to eat out. I still do treat myself out although there's little money. I know it is important that once in while you treat yourself. Bills will not go away, but the time that you had taken yourself for a nice treat will not come back. Maybe in the future you have all the money to treat yourself, but being old and sickly by that time, you can't do it anymore, so better do it now.

Only meant I was that much closer to paying the rent! We never did anything. Money was to tight. And when it was good, we still had to save it for the tight times - in construction it is feast or famine. But I'd always do a Friday Night Family night and make a pizza or something "junk food" related for the kids and we'd watch a movie - some I copied from the TV others we'd get at Block Buster ' back when they were like $6 to rent! Now they are cheaper. And sometimes we'd just play board games. There was a time when he worked up on the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant - worked 6/12's. And on payday, which was Thursday, we'd go out to eat at this one place, (lived in a small town and in a travel trailer at the time) and it was good and the kids each got a little toy on the way out. But it was always just pay the bills and bank the rest. We did things sometimes that cost, like Disneyland twice a year or Knotts Berry Farm but I was really into knowing where the free things in town or the are were. We'd also drive out to Palm Springs every other Saturday night because my boss told me about the AAA Farm team for the California Angels ( or was it the A farm team? Which ever was the lowest!) He was 1/3 owner! So he mentioned it and we went there everyother Sat to the home games and go early and get a fast food or pizza and go to the park and eat and the kids would play and we'd bring their skates and such and at 6 when the ball park opened, we'd go in and sit between 3rd base and home and just enjoyed the living daylights out of the 32-3 hours of hte game and watching the people walk back and forth to the food bar and carry tons and tons of food back to their seats! Good times remembered!

Correction...I know baseball games can go into extra innings, but 32 hours? Sorry, just a typo! It should be 2-3 hours! I just got a little excited remembering that wonderful time wiht my kids. It was so long ago! Early 90's. The Palm SPrings Angels are now, (at least I believe) the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. They left Palm Springs cause the city raised the rent to high on the ball park. Then they went to the Lake Elsinore Storms, then i think to the RC Quakes. Can't find anyone to verify that, but I think that is how it went. IT was only $3 a person to get in in Palm SPrings, now at the Quakes (named for all the earth quakes this area has!) it like $6-$8 per person and being in that huge stadium instead of an open ball park, just takes away the fun of it for me! Yes, living in my memories on this one!

I don't exactly get excited, but I do wait for payday so I can write out those checks and log into those sites to pay the bills. I like to know that I have enough to pay them, but I sure do wish it would stretch farther. I am thankful that I have what I have, but I sure do wish I could get these credit cards paid off (I was lucky enough to get them from my divorce - lovely). We spend next to nothing on ourselves, just the occasional treat at the local buffet restaurant on errand days, and even with that we don't eat supper that night, so I figure its still a good deal. We're on a fixed income and there's still a possibility that part of that 'fixed' will be going away too. I hate worrying about money. :(

My payday was yesterday, but I still havent gone to the Accounts office to pick it up. Actually I like to see a little boost in my bank balance after payday, but no longer get too much thrills about it.

My payday is next friday. And pretty much the whole check that I get is going to pay my rent. But that is ok because hey I have a very nice home. And I am somewhat of a homebody anyway. I know it may sound a little weird but my favorite thing to do is just stay home with my partner and maybe watch a movie that we picked up on the way home. I do however make sure that I have of course money for food, and a little extra to have some fun. Even if that is just jumping in the car and driving the 2 hours to the beach. I really thing it comes down to who you spend your time with not necessesarily what it is that you are doing.

I just did a spreadsheet budget - took quite a bit of time but now we finally see where we're at financially. We don't have money for many extras, but looking at the budget I think I can cut a few little corners hopefully. I can at least try. We splurge a little on payday with getting a really good pizza and the guys use coupons for bowling or even golf occasionally. We figure we have to have a little reward for working, but not overdo it...

We had our payday last week, I never used to bother about paydays because as soon as the pay comes in it goes back out again! But I have knuckled down the past few months and got rid of some debts that I could get rid of, changed companies with a few things to get payments lower and slowly but surely I am starting to see some extra pennies left over at the end of each month. So who knows if I keep on like this we might soon be able to have a few treats again each month.
