Is God an absentee landlord?

I have often heard stories of sad and sometimes dehumanising things that happened to good people and even to kids that have not wronged anybody. God is supposed to be for the good guys but sadly enough, bad things still happen to them. And i ask, "where is God when bad things happen to good people?"

Everything happens for a reason. Maybe God is trying to teach them a lesson or maybe he is showing that person that there is something even better out there for them.
