More of my grocery store pet peeves.

I've ranted before about people in grocery stores who don't understand the whole "8 items or less" concept. My contention about that is if you can't count to 8 - you shouldn't be leaving the house. Well, I now have a new pet peeve. It's those people who just figured out that they now have to pay for their things. They stand there watching everything get scanned in, then spend valuable time fumbling around trying to get our their money, debit card, whatever out. They know they have to pay....why do they wait till he cashier tells them the total to get their payment out of their bags/wallets/sacks/fanny bags......???

Really?? Out of all the problems in the world, this is what bothers you lol. I don't like it when people still are pulling out their check books! Why don't they hop in to the 21st century and get a debit card!

Heheh..you're a riot about saying if people can't count to eight they shouldn't leave their homes ...Yes that is a mystery that people will stand there watching their items being scanned and then when it's all totaled will only then fumble for how they are going to pay whether with cash, credit or debit card...who knows maybe they are hoping they don't owe any money??? That the sum will somehow total zero? LOL

Hey, bonbon.....do you have "roadrage" too? LOL! Somehow, you've got to relax! This has been going on since "time immemorial" and I do worry about your stress level. Please try & find some humour in all of this.

No, I don't have roadrage. I use the "FIDO" method. "Forget it, and drive on".

I do have to say that I am one of those people who stand there and watch the cashier ring every item up seperately. The reason for this is because I want to make sure the products are being rung on correctly. Do you know how many times I have accidently seen a cashier accidently ring up a product twice or the item comes up with a wrong price. I also could care less if people have a problem with that because I want to make sure I am not overspending my money at the grocery store.

I watch what's being scanned in, but, I have the debit card out, and ready to go. Also, I watch, because there is a law here that if the item is scanned incorrectly, you may get it for free. (if it's under a certain amount)

Oh yes, I experienced this just a week or two ago. WalMart, woman in front of us that had a whole boatload of stuff, two kids in tow and another woman with her. She waits until EVERYTHING is totalled and the cashier asks for her money and then opens her purse. Well guess what? Her EBT (food stamp) card isn't in her purse or wallet, so she's digging everything and then says, 'oh yea, it's in the car'. She then proceeds to say 'hang on a minute, leaves her child there, pushes the buggy over to the side and goes outside to get it! Now I don't know about you, but that buggy should have gone NOWHERE until full payment had been made. Because payment hadn't been processed, the cashier had to wait until she came back before she could take care of us. Ummm, hello? If she hadn't come back within the next second or two I was going to ask her to void the whole transaction and make her go through again and go speak to a CSM. It was NOT a fun day at WalMart that day.

Perhaps you shouldn't be in such a hurry, or so easily irritated. Do you think people in the middle ages would get upset while waiting in line at the butcher's shoppe for the him to count on his ten fingers the total price? It's 15 seconds, don't worry, driving home will get that time back for you.

It's not the time that irritates, it's the "obliviates" out there who don't think of such things.

When I get out of the car what I do is put whatever I am using to pay for my purchases in my back pocket. Than I have easy access to it when I get told my total. My back pocket is deep enough that it won't fall out. Yes, I do hate to see people at the cash register searching for their method of paying. It is as you say didn't those people realize once these items were rung up they would need to pay for them. It drives me nuts. Because I take in consideration the people behind me that are not going to have to wait because of me. I always have my payment ready right there.

I think my biggest pet peeve is when they buy a bunch of stuff and then go over and you have to stand there waiting while they sort through and decide what to put back. I know it's embarrasing and I feel for the person but when I have a limited amount of money I always keep a running tab in my head and leave a couple dollars for taxes so I don't go over. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Hahaha... They are too busy doing anything but thinking of paying? For me, unless I am occupied, I tend to take out my wallet and ready myself to pay when it is my turn. But sometimes, if the card gets stuck, then you can't blame me! :P

I do think people who know they are going to the grocery store and want to pay with a check should have dated and put the store's name on the check, at least, before going into the store, especially when it takes them 10 minutes just to sign their names. As a dear 90-year old neighbor used to spryly say "There is old and then there is OLD!" But I do not get as enraged over that as hubby does. On the other hand, since we always shop in a pair I do believe it makes more sense the clerk to let the 2 of us through if we have 10 items than to waste the time of those behind us by ringing us up separately, although if they stop at the 8th item and glare at my husband, I just pick up the two remaining items, and hand them my plastic, saying these two are for me. I am confused sometimes by how we are supposed to count the items when for instance 8 cups of yogurt might be in one package and that is one thing, but and if I buy just 2 apples and bag them I think that is one thing, too. But if pizzas are on sale buy one get one free, is that two things or one thing, because I'm paying for one and s/he is ringing up once, but two must be bagged. And what if canned tuna is on sale at 10 for $4, then would you be mad if I went through the 8 items or less aisle if that was all I was buying? I think those numbers are general guidelines and not to be scrutinized very closely. On the other hand if someone is being outrageous, well then, that is...outrageous.

This is a definite pet peeve of mine as well. Like people who still write checks- if you know your writing a check- why not get the preliminary info ready on the check before hand- why make me wait??

Ohhh dont get me started on that IT IS CALLED EXPRESS CHECK OUT for a reason it should be quick and easy oh not for some people. They decide to pay in 5c coins for $30 worth of grocery or get million cards and cant decide which one to use. in australia they are 12 items or less so 12 can be a lot.

Maybe I lived in Mississippi too long or something but most of the time this doesn't bother me too much. Everyone in New Jersey seems to lack any amount of patience whatsoever. I have seen customers yelling from a line to open more registers, I have seen people stand in a middle of a store yelling for help to find their way around the place, I have seen people at the doctor's office demand to be served ahead of others...it really is ridiculous. People can be downright rude up here, not everyone...but I encounter it a lot. In Mississippi the cashiers and the customers are slower...but at least they are friendly.

What annoys me is when I get charged the wrong price for something and dont find out till I get home. I guess its my fault for not watching like a hawk. I also always somehow end up in the lane wheres theres an issue on like a price check or something.

This made me laugh. My family gives me so much crap about this because I'm the same way. I hate to be in the 10 items or less line holding 2 items while somebody is taking up my time with 15 or more items. If I have a lot of stuff and I notice someone satnding behind me with just 1 or 2 items I always let them go ahead of me because I know how annoying it is. As far as getting money out that bugs me too. Especially when somebody is writing a check to pay for their purchase. If I pay with a check while I'm waiting in line I fill out the name of the store and my signature before I even get my turn. I just think it's rude to hold everybody else up. I try to do my shopping at non-peak times if I can because if I had to deal with those type of people every single time I would probably never go to a store aagain and we would starve. LOL!~D

Too funny, I really don't know why people do this - I always unload my cart and emediately start preparing to pay. Often I use a debit card these days so I tend to dig it out of my purse and just stick it in my pants or coat pocket until ready to use. What was funny was I was at the store earlier today, didn't have much but there were 2 '12 Items or Less' lanes that had no people in them. I looked in my cart and did a quick count '13' I went further down the way and waited behind 3 people who had 100 items :) I remember that other discussion and it does bother me when someone else does it also :)

I relate with you on these grocery store pet peeves. For the 8 items or less thing, I hate it when people have their carts or baskets full of items and fall in line with those who have 8 items or less. They don't just waste our precious time, they show how dumb the are. As regards the second pet peeve you mentioned, I also have experienced this several times and just like the first pet peeve you have here, they waste too much time. They should at least have prepared their purses before reaching the counter.

Oh Bonbon! I feel your pain. Especially when I am on my lunch hour with one item in my freaking hand and my debit card ready to swipe and the butt wipe ahead of me has been unloading crap for the past 4 minutes since I have been standing there. Who knows how long before I got there. Then, I am looking at them, looking up at the sign to make sure that I am not the one who can't read. Look at them. Back up at the sign. At the cashier. At my item. At the idiot butt wipe with the gull to think that rules don't apply to them. At the sign. At the sign longer. At there 13 additional items in the cart that will sooner...but really much later will be added to there 30 other items. Back at them. At the sign. At my watch. Back at my one item. At the other lanes to make sure none of them magically got done faster. I sigh! Tap my foot. Then just stare at the idiot butt wipe ahead of me while shaking my head at them. And, this is on a day when I am in an ok mood! LOL! I freaking hate people who don't care about how inconvenient they are to others around them! PAY ATTENTION! 10 does not equal 50! 10 only equals 10! Sheesh!

That is a valid pet peeve. One of mine is when people are in such of a rush that they whirl around corners and run their cart straight into you. People need to have more consideration of others.
