A lot of movies that we watch came out as a book first. Or a love of books are made into movies... like Harry Potter.
I like to watch movies which I read from book. But oftentimes, I like the book more because in the movies there are a lot of scenes that are not included or that they omitted from the book. I love the book too because I can feel the emotions of the characters unlike in the movie.
Which to do you prefer... the movie or the book?

I have always enjoyed the book better than the movie but I like seeing the movie after I've read the book to add to the visual side of what I've read. It amazes me sometimes how the movie characters are nothing like I would have imagined them to be and other times they are exactly the same. I have to agree that feeling the emotions of the characters makes the books much more enjoyable to me.

I like to read books more because in books, you can go on your phase, stop whenever you want and continue again. You can repeat the portion you did not get very well and go back where you have left. I love the way the authors describe and present a scene in writing...it's so descriptive that you can almost picture a scene in your mind and including emotions while reading it. You can bring the book anywhere, even in the office and read it whenever you have time.

Right. That is why sometimes when watching movie, I like the DVD because you can stop it too and go back when you are ready. thanks.

I have always loved reading books and found them better than the movies, but now I do not have much time to read anymore so I tend to watch the movies instead.

That is a good idea. Usually they based the movie on the sale of the book too. They make the movie if the book is top seller hoping the movie will be a blockbuster. thanks.

I'm not too much of the book person, so I prefer to watch it (and since I am so lazy to read). But most of the people whom i have talked to which read the book before seeing the movie said that the book is much better than the movie. In the movie they put more scenes and they do make twists to the stories.

no doubt its book.U cannot get the feel and pleasure of reading book frm films. Also there is some limit for everything in films like its budget. But there is no restricton 4 ur imagination . so books r always fun 2 read books than watching films.

Yes, that is why sometime the movies don't give justice to the book. thanks.

A lot more detail can be put into a book that will fit into a normal length movie ( 1 1/2 to 2 hrs). A short story is really the right length to make into a movie. To make a good movie that has a lot of detail, it would need to be a miniseries, maybe 10 or more hours shown over several nights.

Movies are great for the big screen experience-You can go with friends and get immersed in the movie world as a group for 90 minutes..or you can read the book the movie was based on at home or anywhere, alone, taking it at your own pace, going back to parts that become clearer as the story unfolds, follow character development that gets missed out on screen..DVD does allow that kind of interactivity, but books give you much more depth, and you don't have to take the story at the pace the Director of the movie sets..An unputdownable book can have you turning pages to see what happens next, but you're in control...Books are personal and portable,Movies are for Sharing!

Same here!
I like to watch the movie too if I have read the book and it is good. They just bring to life what I have imagined after reading the book.:)
However, there are some books that came out because of the movies. They tend to be thin and s*ck.:P

I most certainly prefer books over movies. There have been many good movies that were based off of books but it still isn't the same. So much is omitted or changed around just for the simple fact of making sure the movie isn't too long or drawn out. You miss out on key parts of a book that you may have liked that way. I like reading because it allows me use my own imagination and create a certain world in which I can do what I want. A movie takes that creativity away from a person and it's the imagination that sprouts from reading that I enjoy most about books. The Lord of the Rings were some of my favorite books. I liked the movies very much but they didn't hold a candle in comparison with the books to me. My imagination ran wild with those books. I visited places in my head such as Gondor and The Shire that looked so much different in my mind's eye than they did in the movie. So in my opinion I prefer the a book to any movie.

Harry potter, its better to watch the movie, not spend too much time for reading, and you can know the main idea about story about. For me, harry potter book is nice, but i'm lazy to finish all the pages, so i prefer to watch it. The movie also good because the idea and imagination is really edited by J.K Rowling even with the director. Thats all i wanna say.

usually I did both of them, if the story was really interesting, because I wanted to know how both of them left the impression. sometimes the movie was better than the book, and sometimes the book was better than the movie. and yes, sometimes in the movie there were a lot of scenes we didn't find in the book and vice versa. so when I think I would like to know how the story turns out another way, I will check both of them.

When I got my reading glasses, reading becomes more stressful to me. Movie is a good alternative. Unless the book is written by my favorite authors.

I love to read. I like to read the book and most times I like it much more than the movie version. Timeline is one of them. I absolutely loved the book and they completely butchered it in the movie.
I do like both the Harry Potter books and movies.

Interesting topic...
We need speed nowadays, unfortunately. I used to have a passion of reading when younger...I read a lot on the past, but, you know....when you have a job, you really wish to make your spare time full...I will only read now a very interesting book, which would really mean much to me...but else, I got used to watch films.
I watch documentaries a lot...because it's still a need to learn more...
I expect, again unfortunately, that the books will not exist so much longer, when we have the internet...I think we have to find a way to gain knowledge through multimedia now...because, as I said, everything turns into speed.
We are adapting, and I am very pesimistic about the future of books!

Very true. Much to my desire to read more, time is always a problem. With so much work to do watching is more practical. But then it depends on the book that I am reading. When it is really nice, I will always have time. and watching it is just a confirmation of what I read. Thanks for the response.

In my case, I prefer watching the movie first before reading it because I am given an idea whom to look for in the novel. For me, reading books could be boring especially if it is too thick but if I have an idea and I'm just trying to verify the sequence in the movie and what the characters do in the scenes, I go to the novel. Most of the time, I just skim.

I did that once only. But with the Harry Potter series, I want to read first because I can understand the movie better if I read it first. Thanks my friend for the response.
