Have you ever found money on the ground?

What was the largest bill denomination you have ever found on the ground?
When I was a kid, a friend and I were walking around our elementary school during summer vacation - she found a $5.00 bill. There were no other people around and school was closed so she could not attempt to find an owner.
I remember finding a $10 bill in the middle of a parking lot once.
Then when my brother and I were kids, my dad was an accountant for several nightclubs. We would go with him on Sunday mornings with a flashlight and a bucket. We would come out of there some days with $40 in change. The quarters sure do add up after a Saturday night.

I find the occasional $5 or $10 bill, and coins all the time, but one night I was working in a 7-Eleven and someone reported the bathroom was flooded. It was a disgusting job to clean it but in there (among other unmentionable things) I found $125 in cash plus change, which I put in my wallet after leaving it out to dry on some paper towel. That was probably the best part of my night.

Now that is amazing. Do you think it was the cash that clogged the toilet?

my best friend and I found $100 in the parking lot outside of mcdonalds where we worked, there was also a family that regularly stood in our parking lot begging for money to feed their 5 children, so we bought them all mcdonalds with it. it actually made me not feel so bad about spending money that didn't belong to me since I spent it for a good cause.
rintintin, what is a quid?

Yep I found $20 on the street one time. No one around, so it was mine! lol
I have also found jewlery. One day going to work, I was walking and found a pendant with 2 emeralds, 14k gold. That was about 20 or so years ago.
Hubby last weekend found an engagement ring on the ground of the parkway of the trailer park. This was a very nice looking ring and I told him that we couldn't keep that. Not knowing who it belonged to, how were we to find the owner?
Well, the next morning the owner of the ring was knocking on doors asking if anyone had found it. I called hubby at work and told him to bring the ring home( he brought it to work to show it off), the owner was looking for it. He brought it home and the owner's husband gave us $100 for finding it. That ring was a family heir loom from her grandmother.
I was so happy the woman got that ring back, not for the money, but because it was from her grandmother. I know I would want it back and I have my grandmother's wedding band.

I want to say the most I ever found on the street was $20. lol
Walking to the store and wasn't even looking for it, it found me! :)
No one around, so I picked it up and kept walking. lol That was about 4 years or so ago.
The funny thing is we (hubby and I) dream of finding money, and I don't mean loose money, I mean $1,000's of dollars. lol I wonder what the heck that means, but if it isn't me dreaming it, it is him, so it is very strange to me. lol

Maybe!
We use to play and we would win! The most we ever won was $1500! After that, we started to not win, so we stopped. lol
Maybe we'll go back again some day

You should be playing the lottery!! Maybe that is what your dream is telling you just $1.00 a drawing, that's all it takes.

Fascinating topic! I started a little experiment two years ago to see how much change/money I could find. I started to blog my daily finds and eventually moved on to include soft drink cans and selling items of worth that i'd find. Right now we're at $974.70 since October 2005. The highest bill denomination we found was a $100.00 at an Atlantic City casino bathroom and the next runner up was a $20.00 at the local mall during Halloween. My husband attracts ten dollar bills.. I usually get the pennies lol. We've labeled our coin jar 'The New York City Changepot'- my blog link is in my profile if you'd like to come check out our progress.

I have loved reading your entries on your blog and now follow you on Twitter.
My BFs 8 year old son is always finding change so I have emailed her your blog so she could check it out.
I think we might start our change jar in 2010. Thanks for the inspiration.

I haven't been able to found anything really big or anything. I have found change on the ground like quarters and dimes etc, but no dollars or anything like that. Which I could though LOL.

I reckon the largest I personally found was a 20, my little one found 100 once.
I think it is important to report large amounts that are found.... someone might be relying on it.
that must have been exciting as a child to fill up the bucket with change - shoot I would get excited to do it today as an adult even!

I am doing something like this right now. I bought for myself and my two daughters banks that will keep count of how much money you put in it. I have been putting all my change (minus the quarters), and a portion of the money I earn doing surveys, rebates, etc. So far I have over $140 in it. This will come in handy for the holidays.
Thanks for the response.

I found a 10,000 florint note at the weekend (I was in Budapest). It was in a coffee shop, so I gave it to someone working there. I also found £20 in a car park in Leeds last year. I took it into one the shops and handed it in to someone working there. I wonder if the owners of the money ever got it back?

I have found a $5.00 bill before. I have also found a $1.00 bill before, out on the side walk. When I was a cashier at a department store I found $20.00 on the ground, but I had to turn it in to see if someone claimed it. No one claimed it after a week so I got to keep it. That is the most I have ever found. My sister in law found a $100 bill on the ground once, she put it in her pocket and didn't offer to take anyone out for ice cream or anything, there were a few of us with her, and we all kind of saw it at the same time, but she grabbed it. We all thought it was pretty selfish that she didn't at least offer us something since we all found it.

I know it seems that people are being very careful about their money, which is a good thing.
I think we are going to start a change jar for 2010 to see how much money our family can find in one year.
Thanks for the response.

Yes I find it quite regularly with a metal detector. I once found $72.00 in 10 hours and on a regular basis I can get 5-10 dollars each outing. The good thing about this is you can find not only money but rings necklaces and other items. Old historical relics can also be recovered as well.

There was one night when I was on the way back from a dinner across a street not far from the place I stayed. It was about two years ack at around 8pm nearby the guard house of the condominium I stayed. I can still remember that day was dark with very little light around. I seldom went out for dinner alone but that dya I just felt like taking a walk outside. On my way back home after my dinner, suddenly I saw something on the floor. A coloured paper. Due to very dark there. i walk close and realize it is a piece of RM50 (equivalent to US$14). I picked it up and slipped it into my pocket and pretending nothing happened. There was a guard in the guard house but I think he have not notice anything.
After that, when I reached back home, I happily phone my mother and told her about the incident. She said that I am so lucky! The fortune God was there with me perhaps.
I inserted the money into my purse and have used it for my daily expenses. Usually, the amount I can picked up is only 10 cents, 1 cents, 5 cents and 20 cents. Nothing too much than that but just once!

The largest denomination bill I have ever found on the ground is a $5 bill. I do not find more as often as I used to find when I was a kid. For instance, when I was in middle school, I used to always find a $1 almost every three months at a bus stop or on the ground. Now, I rarely find any!

I have found lots of money on the ground. The largest bill I found was $100. I pick up change all the time so a penny would be the smallest denomination. I have found many twenties as well. I have found fives and ones too. I don't think I have ever found a $10 bill though.
My husband had found quite a bit of money randomly in the last year too.
Once I actually got to return the money to the person. I found around $7 or $9 (I can't remember anymore) at Target on the floor. It belonged to a little girl. I knew it was hers only because I heard her crying a few aisles over. I went to check it out because if it was hers I wanted to give it back! It was and I was really glad that I found the money and her so I could return it!

If I saved all the pennies I've ever found and picked up I'd have around $20. I've found many of those. I've heard also that if you find a penny, it means someone that has passed on say a loved one, they are sending their love from Heaven.
But I think the most money I've come across laying on the ground was $15.00.
My son and I were just coming out of the post office and we were parked on the street, no one was around .. no cars nothing.. so I picked it up gave my son the 5 bill and I took the 10. Bonus!

my friend's son who is always finding change had an extra $50 one summer just from looking around for change. It's a running joke on how much he will find each day.

I remember when my brother and I were little, we were having a picnic with the family. So we decided to go for walk around the site, then we came across a ditch with about 100 bucks. We made sure it didn't belong to anyone, but it sure was a good score.
But when we went back, dad asked us were we got the money and we said we found it, and then said desert on you guys? And we said of course. LOL....
