I am posting this to get my hometown listed. We own a place just outside of Strawberry, Arkansas (pop. 283). We moved out here from western Colorado in November 2007. My wife and I have never been happier than we are here.

from one who was born and lived in a small town for her childhood years hello. my home town had a sign on the road leadinginto town which read 1300 people and one dog. I have not been back there in years but my best friend who lives close to town says there are now only some 600 people left in Newell S.D. I now live in Tustin Ca which is much bigger but not huge probably 66,000 and we live in the suberbs so its not that bad. I think small towns are really nice to grow up in but the cold in S.D. has made me stay here. Sounds like you are really happy in Strawberry ark.

Hi Hatley, thank you for your response. Yes, growing up in a small town was wonderful. In Arvada, Colorado, where I was raised, the population was about 3,000 as I went through school. By the time time I started High School(1969), the population had exploded to approximately 20,000. It now is approximately 105,000. I have been back there once in the last 25 years and didn't even recognize the area I grew up in. Here in Strawberry, my wife and I agreed that it was like stepping back in time by 50 years !!! Neither one of us have ever been happier !!!

Thank you for the welcome Sunkissed. The weather here certainly beats Colorado, although, with all this rain lately, I believe that my toes are starting to get webs between them. I was glad to see you use the name, "Arky"!!! My godfather was from Little Rock, and everyone we knew from here referred to themselves as "Arky's". But, since we moved here, I've noticed that many of the self proclaimed "Arkansas Elite" classify themselves as "ArKansans". I much prefer the old name !!! And, right back at ya, "I'm glad to meet you too, fellow "ARKY"!!!

Welcome to mylot Ed, glad to here you like your new home in Strawberry, Arkansas. Are they famous for growing strawberrys or something? Or is that just a funny joke around them parts. lol This place is a fun place to be. A great way to meet new people and to boot they really do pay. I swear, been paid many times. Thank you for the welcome, and the helpful info Michelle. Naw, we aren't famous for anything here. I think that's probably a blessing though. Even that "15 minutes of fame" can bring a lot of growth and a lot of problems to a wonderfully peaceful lifestyle. I know, I saw it first hand in my native state of Colorado. Thanks again for the welcome Michelle.

Welcome to MyLot and welcome to Arkansas. I am not sure where Strawberry, Arkansas is. I am around Subiaco, Arkansas. It is also a small town. I am originally from Wichita, Kansas, so it is a big change from living in the city. I like country living better though. It is a good place to raise the kids.

Hi Jen, I'm sorry it's taken so long to respond. Strawberry is about 200 miles northeast of Subiaco. We are about 50 miles northwest of Jonesboro. My wife, Nellie and I have truly found our place in heaven here. We love being able to sit on the porch and watch the wild turkeys, deer, and other wildlife. We moved from Palisade, CO(pop. 2,200) to Strawberry(pop. 283), and couldn't be happier. The people and lifestyle out here is second to none !!! As for raising kids here, they couldn't have it any better. My only regret is that we had not had the opportunity to raise our 5 kids here.

What city in Colorado were you from? We just moved here to Clarksville, TN. a few years ago. I lived in Colorado Springs for about 7 years. I really miss the scenery and especially the shopping. Good luck to you in Strawberry, Ar.

Thank you Nova. I grew up on the "front range", Arvada, to be exact. My wife Nell, and I lived in Buena Vista for 3 years and then moved over to Palisade, 12 miles east of Grand Jct., where we had been for the last 7 years. Yes, Colorado is beautiful, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Arkansas Ozarks' beauty. Our nearest neighbor is 3/4 of a mile away, unless you count the wild turkey, deer, possum, raccoon, squirrel, cattle, and ducks, lol. It's just a fantastically different lifestyle here!! All the best to you and yours, and thank you for the response Nova.

The advantage I have is that my wife Nell, is an old "ridge runner" from Forest City, NC. So, it was easy for her to move. She doesn't care for the hustle and bustle of city life either. Our closest Walmart is 28 miles away.
