A most endearing toy

My daughter has many toys, including an entire playpen of stuffed animals. Each toy, I'm sure, serves its own purpose when she plays. Her mother would know more than I do which toys captivate her the most.
However, some seem to be more enduringly endearing. Some of these are simple. Like the tube at the center of paper towel rolls. (Working in a medical office, I also bring home larger tubes which used to contain paper for exam tables.) These serve as 'telescopes' just like they did for me as a child. She seems to like getting a new tube, no matter how many times she's been given one in the past.
She also enjoys her castle puzzle. This, too, has a certain enduring allure. She and her daddy get out the puzzle. The puzzle pieces are large and the puzzle is put together on the floor where it takes up a good space. Perhaps three foot by four foot. When the puzzle has been finished, daddy gets the King, Queen, and Knight from the Curio Cabinet and I watch my daughter have these characters speak to each other and play over the surface of the castle puzzle.
She doesn't seem to get tired of this, but perhaps that's because I only do it with her occasionally. It give me joy to watch my daughter play and imagine with this puzzle and a few figures.
This makes me wonder, do any of the rest of you mylotters have stories or examples of particularly enduringly endearing toys that you children seem to have a special fondness for? What do you think is responsible for the special magic of this particular toy?

My daughter is especially fond of playdough. She makes her own characters. And then she sets up a scene. She does this right at the kitchen table. She can sit there for the longest time creating. Where I think the magic comes from? Is that each time she decides to do this it's a little different never quite the same.SO it doesn't become boring.
