Does Anyone Else Find It Hard To Have A Regular Exercise Routine?

I got married on April 21, 2006 and before that I never could gain weight. People used to comment on how skinny I was all the time. Right after my wedding I started to gain weight. I ended up gaining about 40 pounds.
In April we moved to Kentucky from Illinois and since then I have lost about 30 pounds. However, I am completely out of shape and I have to firm things up, if you know what I mean. My husband says that I look good but I am self concious about it. However, I am finding it so hard to get into a regular workout routine because I have never been in this position before and I am just not used to it. Does anyone else have this problem or perhaps some suggestions for me?

Yes, I really need to start walking some more. Right now it's too cold out but hopefully soon the weather will get a little warmer and I will be able to start walking more. I also like to play tennis and so I may do that a little as well.

Doing exercise I think is not only an issue of weight, but also could keeps healthy, so I always try to make regular exercise routine plan, like go out to run each day,and climb hills every weekend, but unfortunately, I am soooo lazy and work is busy, really have not enough time, can't persist for long time, therefore, all my plans usually turns to a failure. Recently i found go to GYM is a good way, there has running and walking machines...all types of machines for each part of body you wish to improve.

BTW,if you live on live on floor 21, perhaps you could walk up stairs from floor 1 to floor 21...it's a good feeling, also it could save money(joke). In my opinion, walk a great amount each day is also an exercise.

i agree sometimes it can get pretty hard to maintain an exercise routine, but like another mylotter mentioned you should find something you truly enjoy. I love dancing, particularly belly dancing. It's a great and fun way to get a great workout. My gym offers many aerobic classes. I feel more motivated when I am being pushed by another person.

Yeah, I agree. I need to find something I have fun doing. I tried belly dancing and I just couldn't get it. I found it too hard but it does look great when you get it down right. I just couldn't and I'm usually a good dancer :-P

i do. i can't get myself to have my daily exercise done. even if it was just 30 minutes or so... it is rather too difficult for me.... there must be something you did that made you lose 30 pounds... and maybe you can have it done again... and it is you who can share with us...

Well, one thing it may have been was the fact that I was taking Effexor XR for my Generalized Anxiety and Panic Disorder and now I'm taking Wellbutrin SR and that's suppose to make you loose weight. So, that may have been what helped me to loose the weight. Now I just have to firm it all up LOL...

This is interesting. Just curious, were you fed a lot of food after you got married?
As for your topic question, YES.
I have a big problem keeping to a routine too.
I would try to start one, and flop, and start another, and flop... cycle continues.
I can only suggest you persevere. Good luck!:)

LOL some people say I was just really happy and so ate more. I think it was because I moved away from my family and being that I was so close to them, I got a little depressed and bored while my husband was at work and so ate more, which definitely would explain why I have lost since I moved back to be closer to them.
In any case, it could also be that I'm not as young anymore as well and so my matabalism is not as fast. I am going to be 30 in Ocotober. Who knows? I mean, I wouldn't say I am fat but I definitely could use some toning up...

I used to have a hard time to do a regular exercise routine. Sometimes I would not even do it for weeks. But, now I found one thing that motivates me and that is my friend. I have sort of like exercise buddies in which we perform our regular exercise routines daily, in our case we get up every morning to run and play tennis. That way, if I am feeling lazy one day, my buddies would come over and pull me out of bed while if one of my other buddies fall in that same predicament, we go over to pull him/her out of bed.

I definitely agree. I would love to have someone to exercise with. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone at this point in time, that I could do that with :-(

Yes I do! I used to go to a gym, but it got closed and the other ones around are too expensive. The YMCA is expensive, too! I have equipment at home, but I mostly just walked by it! lol
The only thing that works for me is to make an appointment with my gym equipment. Really. I used to have an appointment at the gym. I didn't have any problems getting there at the time I was supposed to. So I started making an appointment with my own exercise routine! May seem funny, but hey, whatever works!

Yeah, I'm sure it's hard to get back into it, once you stopped doing it. I used to do some sit ups when I first got married and then I got out of the habit. Now it's so hard to get back into doing stuff like that. I need to push myself more I guess.

I have no time to fit in a regular exercise routine, so whenever I do have some minutes to spare I have an abdotrim and I do as many on that as I can for my stomach, I also do leg raises as they are good for your legs and dont take much time and I walk up and down stairs a few times as that is good too! I just do what I can when I can.

I find it hard to get into an exercise routine. Ive always had compliments also about how skinny I always was. Then I got pregnant. Then after I had her I got on the depo shot. I was good for 2 years til I realized that the depo shot was starting to take its toll. I was starting to gain some weight and ever since been trying to burn if back off but cant seem to stay on track excercising. Hopefully when it turns warmer weather I can do something about it.

Just like yourself I have never really had a weight issue but recently had a baby and although I have not gained loads of weight I do need to tone everything up again, but just cant find the time or motivation to get into a good routine.
I think I had someone who was working with me towards the same goal I would stay on track and be more posative and even after a while if the person I was doing it with quit I would still be able to continue as I would have that already active in my life by that point.
Does that make sence?

That makes perfect sense! I agree with you. I think if I had someone who was willing to exercise with me on a daily basis, I would be more motivated. Man, I wish I was rich, then I could get a personal trainer ;-P

i exercise once a day, for about 2 hours a day.
all you got to do is to set some time out for your exercise, and make it a habit...
i like to think of it as an investment! =)

Good point! I guess it's all in how you train your mind. I have to just set a time in the day to do exercise and stick to it and not give in to my laziness about it...

I think the main thing is to find something you are excited about. I have had this problem a many of times, and have gone back and forth with times where I would work out for a long time and then skip it for a long time, while trying to get back into the routine.
Once you get excited about something though, you will do it for a few days. After so long it will become habit forming. We humans are creatures of habit!

I think my problem with exercise is commitment. I have started different routine and I end up backsliding. I tried almost everything, pilates, yoga, aerobics, kick boxing, belly dancing... now I gained more pounds and still not doing anything. I need help too. But I am reconditioning my mind to start again with belly dancing. I like it because it's low impact exercise but I sweat a lot and it focus on the areas I really like to lose.

I'm getting a Wii, people say that it's a good workout. Is that just wishful thinking? ;-P
