Do You Leave The Plastic On Your Furniture?

Well my mom hasn't gone that far yet. But she has a beautiful table lamp that she never turns on and the lamp shade is still wrapped in its original plastic wrapping. Her kitchen counters are covered with dish towels so you can't even see her beautiful granite top. And her comfy sofas have blankets and quilts draped all over. Or how about buying beautiful candles and never using them? Have you done that? What pretty things have you bought but never used?

I think people like this like to have new things and would hate to have them get damaged but, really, what is the value of something if you can't enjoy it? I remember my aunts car when I was growing up..she had towels on the seats and the floor. Would hate to have them stained! But it looks stupid..you have a nice car with bath towels covering everything! Now, covers for collector comic books are one thing...who are you 'saving' the car for..the next owner?! PS: nice smile on your pic! there is nothing better, to me, then a nice smile!

Absolutely. As a matter of fact I think mom suffers from "I've never had any nice thing so I'm going to protec it all" syndrome. Which, of course, I don't blame her but it does make her stuff look a little less attractive. Well, you keep those collector comic books safe now and I'll keep smiling. What a nice compliment. Thank you. Hope you have a wonderful Saturday evening.

I am glad you will keep smiling! I am sure your bf/husband appreciates it! Sold all my comic books to my dad (covers and all). Maybe one day I will get back into it. There is just something more real to me being with people rather than things!

I have covers on my furniture for protection. The last thing I want to do is have my nice chair covered in mud. There are times I sit down and haven't thought about the mud on me from the ponds. I purchased several covers, so can just change my furniture appearance at any time. Right now, my furniture all has brown covers, but in the spring will change to a lighter color, which means changing them more often. One problem with light colors can see the mud easily. I don't have plastic on any lamps, as mud doesn't end up on them. Sorry I just laughed that is funny. My kitchen counters don't have any dish towels on them. The car has covers or it would be covered in mud. My husband thinks my occupation would ruin his car. He has large mats on the floor and has purchased several different kinds, so they look attractive.

I am potting water plants and just finished digging 2 ponds. The mud was everywhere; however, this is the best time to dig them. The ground is easy to dig.

At least it isn't covered with that thick plastic stuff. Why is there so much mud around you, Fishmomma?

I think your mum is going a bit too far. I can understand her need to protect what she sees as valuable items, but not ever use them is almost impractical. I must admit to owning a Royal Albert Teaset, which is on display only. I never use it as I am careless enough with ordinary crockery. I use all my pretty candles. Gee, to cover all her kitchen tops with tea towels! Is your Mum kind of obsessive?

I had a great aunt who covered all her furniture and even her flooring in sheet plastic - it was all so antiseptic in her home I was afraid to breath less I offend her air ! I never could understand having things to not be used or enjoyed.

You know sometimes. When we have new furniture like a sofa, we leave the plastic until its thorn out. On some furniture like figurines, we unwrapped it because it may broken into pieces if we leave the plastic in it.

Geez, why? If we get new furniture, we will tear the wrappings, plastic and all off. How else do we use it properly? And if we are buying things, we won't be buying unless we are gonna use. Things are different if they are gifts. Some gifts still lie there in their wrappings because we can't bear to dump them but have no use for them.

Hi, I remove the plastic cover from the new furniture or any other items I bring home. But, once I bought a lamp shade, but did not remove the plastic on it because it was stretch wrapped and did not hide the shade color. It was looking fine and the plastic was nearly invisible. So, I thought that I better keep them on. It gave my lamp a new look as I could easily wipe the dust on it. Regards

No I have not done that, what would be the use? Yes, her things will be protected a lot longer, but then she can't enjoy them either..I guess I am not the type to buy things if I can't use them..lol

I don't see the point of buying nice furniture and then covering it up with things and hardly using it. You are better off buying something cheapear that looks nice so you can replace it when it does get worn.

Good Afternoon all, I am new around here so go easy on me ;-) Cant say I understand people that buy new things only to keep them wrapped in there packets and kept in a cuboard!? See I have just got my first apartment (ever) with my girlfreind and while we aim for the less is more look we both like the things we do have to take pride on show. But each to there own ofcourse! hehe on ething we have learned already though is that our apratment is not child safe (her sister has a little boy of 2yrs) so when he comes around everything he can reach will be moved, lol its like his mission every time. Anyway thats enough from me for now.

There are tons of things that I have bought and never using them. Like when I was in first year of high school, I always go to mc donalds with my cousin instead of eating lunch at school. We was only doing it to get the toy, there are some that really cute and can hang on the school bad etc. But I rarely open them so I got alot now that I have never opened XD

Just about everything I've gotten, I've used. The only thing I can think of that I barely used then were some roller blades my husband bought for me before we had any kids. I had planned on learning how to roller blade, but didn't get the hang of it and after a few tries I gave up and stored them in the closet. My husband told me just the other day that they are in perfect shape after all these years and he wants to see if our 10 year old son would be interested in using them as his feet are almost big enough to fit in these skates.

Hello dear gtargirl. To some of the furniture, we also leave the plastic on it without wanting to tear it off for the protection of it, like the comfortable mattress, it is still wrapped with the thin plastic. So your mom is not alone there. hehehe.

The only thing I have never used that I have bought or have been bought for me are n fact decorative candles, I light standard pillars candles bu save the ornate carved ones, but would use if I had to in an emergency. Just thought of something else, thimbles, my daughter brings them back for me whenever she travels and I have quite a collection, but have neve used them when sewing. We have a snuggle blanket on the back of one of the sofas for chilling with in the evening but no covers as such. Ellie :D
