Find a penny pick it up,all day you will have good luck?? Is this how it goes?

I always say, find a penny and pick it up and all day long you'll have...a penny more than would have done. As you can see I'm not superstitious. I've never heard of having to give it away to be considered lucky. I often find pennies as it seems as if these days people cant be bothered to pick them up if they drop them. I even encountered people actually throwing them away because they thought they were a nuisance or didnt want to wear the lining on their wallets. I'm in the UK by the way. I keep mine in the car for when I buy fuel and the register goes that extra penny or two over. I think finding the penny is the good luck rather than keeping it or giving it away, but I've heard that giving money plants away brings good luck for those who believe in such things, maybe thats what youre thinking of.
