A bowl of oatmeal a day lowers your cholesterol? My husband and I try and eat oatmeal every morning to lower our cholesterol. Too much cholesterol in your body can be very bad for your heart. Oatmeal is a "heart smart" meal. If you are 40 years old and more, you should have your cholesterol checked.

This is som egood advice right here.
I actually make my own breakfast with natural rolled oats, fruits, seeds and nuts! Cheaper than buying ready made stuff and far far better nutrition

haha no I dont live on a farm but sometimes wish I do, then I could eat soooo good. People should put more effort into what they have for breakfast it is the most important meal you eat each day!

I try to have oatmeal a couple times a week. I've been putting brown sugar and a little butter on top for somethign different. I get the instant oatmeal and my husband will make that. Not as good as the plain stuff, but it's a start I think. Why is it so much more trouble for the family to measure that half cup of oatmeal in a bowl and water, rather than using the instant?

I like to make the one minute oatmeal and add raisens, it's really not as much bother as the oatmeal in a bowl and adding water, but alot of times if hubby isn't up yet that's what I will do.
Thanks everyone for your wonderful posts. You are all very smart people! Good health to you all. Hugs!

I've been having oatmeal porridge for breakfast for more than 30 years and I also take a daily supplement of cod liver oil which is also said to have a cholesterol lowering effect. I also cycle 12 miles a day, (to get to and from work) all of which is supposed to help in lowering the cholesterol levels. I don't have a problem with it being to high, so I suppose it must all be working!

Maybe that is why my cholesterol always read so good because I eat oatmeal every morning. My bloodglucose and my blood pressure may not always be so good but my LDL and the other one are always very good. my nurse practioner in diabetes says I do not need to take any medication for cholesterol as mine is perfect.Thank goodness for that as I already take so many meds two for diabetes. three for blood pressure and one for arthritis and that is plenty. I also try to eat a lo fatdiet with no saturated fat and eat some good fat likeomega three and flaxseed oil and avocadoes. I do love my oatmeal. it keeps me from getting hungry until noon so I do not overeat or piece.

I should eat more of it, for sure. A month or so ago I started eating a small bowl in the morning several times a week, but I got away from it again.
My cholesterol is very high and the dr isn't going to be pleased when I see him again next month. I doubt there's been much, if any change, at least not to the good.
