I have a Siberian Husky and she sheds a few smaller versions of herself dailey! It's bad for our electronic equipment and we have to keep replacing our surround sound and cleaning out the computer every 3 months. Everywhere I look, there are dog hairs. I swear I must injest a ton of it. I'd hate to see my isides and lungs, probably just full of dog hairs ewwwwwwwwwwww. Does anyone else have this problem? Any good ideas to keeping the hairs down?

We have a dog and a cat, both of which are only moderate shedders. Unfortunately, I haven't found any really good way to get rid of the fur except to vacuum a lot. I use the wand attachement to get into the corners and under things where the fur-bunnies congregate. I just removed a puppy-sized ball from under the fridge yesterday (it had been awhile since I went under there). Luckily, we have carpets that sort of match the dogs fur, so it doesn't look too terrible if we let it go for a few days. :-)

catjane, First you need to understand dogs, cats, horses, etc shedding cycles. ................. The shedding process is determined by the length of daylight, once when the days first begin to get longer and then when the days begin to shorten. This holds true for all shedding fur bearing animals. As new fur begins to grow it pushed the old fur out of a follicle to be replaced by shiny new fur. ..................... Dogs need to be brushed daily except for when not shedding a few months out of the year. If you do this everyday it is easier than waiting longer and trying to catch up on the loose fur in your dog's coat. .................... Personally I find it much more enjoyable to brush my 4 GSDs and 3 cats instead of vacc'ing ;-)) ........................... So you can either daily brush or let the 'Beast of Fur Clouds' spread her joy through out the house*g* HTH, Shirley & the Kitchen Wolves & Tiny Tigers

Thanks, maybe that explains it then since I live in Florida where there is alot of sun and daylight. She blows her coat at least 3 times a year and sheds in between. I do brush her but she hides under the table alot in the summer so it's hard to get to her.

My dog sheds a lot too. All we do is comb her often to make sure all that hair ends up in the trash and not on the floor. But even that doesn't completely solve the problem. I guess some dogs just shed like crazy. I swear I can't believe my dog isn't bald with all the hair she sheds.

I just picked up a new brush the other day at Petsmart. It's called the Zoom Groom. It's a rubber brush with rubbery fingers and I can't believe how well it works! Take your dog outside or to the garage or basement (someplace without carpet) and brush him down daily. It will make a huge difference. Diet may also have an impact, check with your vet for dietary supplements that may help.
