How many times have you gone into a store and seen on the shelf the product you want, but by three different manufacturers. You hum and haw over whether to buy the most expensive one or the mid priced or el cheapo. I don't know how many times I have gone for the cheapest rushed home and broke it on the first use. Back to the store and buy the more expensive one which works great and lasts forever! My mom always told my dad when he would go cheap on something and it wouldn't work "You get what you pay for" Do you feel this way and when is the last time you thought this!?

lol..I feel like this all the time. Especially since hubby is a cheapie when it comes to buying stuff...and he still hasn't learnt! I've got lots of cheap stuff we bought that doesn't work...and can't believe we have 4 food processors and the only one that works is the first one we bought (on my parents' suggestion)which is the most expensive of the lot! I don't understand why my husband still does not get it and waste money on the cheaper brands only for it to work a few times and then break down on us.

Not always is that the case. I have some cheap stuff that work better than the more expensive ones....my LG washing machine...is terrible!

I know I would think I would have learned by now too but at times I have these moments of cheapness!

I don't usually buy with the price, I buy with the brand. Sometimes, when we get used to trust a brand and we know they last, it's worth buying. Well, sometimes, it does, when you buy the more expensive ones they lasts long. But of course, it all depends on how we use and handle these things.

I hate it when I buy something brand name because it never let me down before and now it is garbage!

Yeah, its saddening that what we usually trust can now be losing it's quality!

I tend to agree. The only time I really don't use that rule of thumb is when it comes to food products. There are some food product brands that I prefer but, I will try to stick with the cheaper brands when I can. But, TV's, cars, even Lasik eye surgery. Those are all things where you tend to get what you pay for. I say Lasik because I had it done and didn't even consider those places that offer Lasik for $300. No way. That is my sight and I want the best and was willing to pay a lot for it.

I would get the best when it came to my sight too! I agree with some of the no name and grocery store brands of food, I think some times it is the same food, different can.

What I always look for in any product is its quality and where it was made. Inspect the product thoroughly to see if there are damage or factory defect and look at price of its worth buying. There are certain products that cost more because of its brand, but this should not be the basis of its quality. There are many products in the market that cost less but if looked more closely, it turns out to be better than that of the more expensive one.

It is true that in some cheaper products the difference between them and the more expensive is close to nothing.

there is a proverb in chinese:"???????”it means:it is worth every penny of it,so i believe it is a truth, the price reflect the worth to a certain extent, but it is not absolutely right.so before you buy somethings ,you can ask the pepoles who had uesed them, search in the internet is a good way too.

When I am shopping for an expensive thing I usually spend hours on the internet researching the best product to buy, I love the internet for that as there is always someone who has experienced what you are interested in.

I can't agree with you more!you get what you pay for.I was born in a norm family ,not rich and not poor ,so that I have to take care of money.when I go shopping ,I saw many products.really,it's a hard job to choose one from them.they are different in quality and price. At the beginning,I choose the cheap one but it really let me down.Just as you see it won't use last. After several times,I made a dicision, from now on, I don't use the cheap but poor quality products. It's not a good way to save money ,don't you think so?

I used to buy cheap dvd players because the branded ones are expensive and I had to wait for it to break and buy 3x the cheap product before I realized I was wasting my money on the cheap ones. My husband always want to buy the expensive one. We saw the Pioneer dvd player and it cost much but it has a lifetime warranty..same with the v-tech it also has a lifetime warranty. So now I know better expensive stuffs last longer than cheaper ones.

Yes, I usually choose the more expensive product if its high end things, such as computer, stove, microwave, etc. For food, sometimes I will choose the cheapest brand in pasta, milk.. etc. Many times I have chosen to buy the cheaper product and in the end its cost me more money so I've learned my lesson again and again. I just purchased a laptop and I ended up going with a higher end and a brand name because of quality and warranty.

It does not apply to me at all times, but it does applies. A great example of it would be Walmart. Walmart has their own Ibuprofen and then they have other types of Ibuprofen from different manufacturers. Walmart's Ibuprofren (equate) is really cheap compared to the other ones made by other manufacturers, however when I buy equate's ibuprofens and take it, it still takes care of my pain in the same amount of time the other pills from other manufacturers would. However, sometimes, Walmart made products, though cheap tend to last not very long. For instance, when I bought Walmart-made iron, it last only a few weeks compared to the iron about made by a manufacturer called Black & Decker. It is a little expensive, but it has lasted me five months so far. -Feel Free to Disagree!

I know what you mean, I use the walmart brand of sinus medication and it works just as well as the brand products. I love walmart for some things!

I think sometimes somethings are made by the same manufactured and just branded different.I bought a sandwich press a couple of yaers ago in a bargain store for $29.99, later I saw an identical one, on special in a supermartket for $49.99 !The only different was the brand on it and the box. And my cheapie is still working fine.

Don't you hate it when you buy something more expensive then realize the cheaper one is basically the same! Lucky you did the reverse.

Anyone would always consider the price in buying the item. As for me, it would depend on what item I would buy and go for the branded ones or the cheap ones. Like shoes for instance, I would rather go for expensive ones rather than the cheap once since on many occasions that I have bought some shoes that are cheap and don't last. So I would rather go for something that is expensive but will last for quite a time. Another thing to consider is safety, like electrical appliances for example. There are a lot of cheap appliances in our area but a fire hazards because it lacks the necessary safety features. I would rather buy the expensive ones that I know I can trust rather than buy cheap and be sorry.

How true that is when buying electrical appliances, going cheap can never pay if you burn the house down!

I usually tend to just look for the best quality. It varies sometimes I find what im looking for cheap and sometimes not. Ive had some things that were extremely expensive break easily. For example for my daughter for xmas. She loves to jump. So I was at toys r us and they had this jumping thing that you blow up. It was like 20 dollars. I seen another one a little different that had spongebob on it. That one was like 40 or 45. So I decided id just get that one since she like spongebob. Well about 2 weeks later she was jumping on it and one of the sides deflated for whatever reason. I couldnt find a hole of anything. I should have just got the cheaper one and even if it broke I still would have saved money.

i believe it all depends on the item.. i have brought things cheap and they broke but i have also brought expensive things and they have broke just as quick and then gone more a cheaper version and it has lasted a long time..

I can relate to that. I bought an expensive fancy coffee maker and it lasted a couple of months then I bought a lesser machine and three years later it's still going strong.

Sometimes you pay for the Brand! So not necessarily the cheapest will be the worst.. The same works for the most expensive... Not necessarily will be the best, but for sure will be one of them.... Or else it wouldn't have any market.

That is true enough. I have bought things solely based on brand and been disappointed in the past.

It all depends I think. SOmetimes like a store-brand food is just as good as name brand, without paying for the price. Often times appliances are what is the thing to be careful about. I think the cheapest appliance is usually just that -- THE CHEAPEST, and if you want a quality appliance, such as a vacuum, washing machine, food processor, etc -- you have to dish out a little more money for a superior, longer-lasting product. As far as clothes, foods, and other things, I think it's almost equal quality for the most part, but I still inspect things before I buy.

I agree a lot of the time there is no difference in store brand food and the fancy brand name. I use a lot of store brand in my cooking.
