food sources

Does anyone have suggestion how we can make our food sources safer. I worry about what I buy and the supermarket. I'm never sure when they will have a recall on it. I grow some of my vegetables in the summer time but I buy meats and in the winter I buy fresh vegetables and fruit. I always wash them in warm water even bananas.
