I received my first digital camera for Christmas two years ago. I love it but I am ready to upgrade. I have a Canon sureshot. I am wanting to save for a professional SL camera. What kind is best? Does any of you have a Single lens camera? If you do what brand and would you recommend it? I am leaning toward another Canon. I have had great luck with Canon Cameras. What is your favorite brand?

Oh I had a Canon SureShot before... the film one though. It was a nice point and shoot, I used to use it a lot.
I finally got an SLR almost a year ago. I got the Nikon D80. I absolutely love it. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have live view (so you have to look through the viewfinder).
Depending on your price range, the Nikon D300 has live view and is very nice. If I didn't already buy the D80 I might have considered it. Except that I probably couldn't really afford it anyway.
I like Nikons myself because their settings and camera styles tend to go exactly with what I want in a camera. But I've used Canons too and they're nice as well. I think they can be a bit easier to use. I have a Canon video camera and love that. But once you learn a Nikon they are all very similar. And in a lot of ways I just really like Nikons a lot better.

i would suggest that you get the professional series the SLR's of nikon. canon.s SLR's or single lense reflex are also good , it is all in the upgrade of your accessories and how you use it, how to take photos with all its complicated adjustments.

I am personally a Nikon user, but Canon makes excellent cameras as well. Most professionals will tell you to go with either a Nikon or a Canon. As for which of those two is better, technically they're both pretty equal, it just depends on personal preference.

i got my camera about 3 years back in Hong Kong. It is the newly released Nikon Cool pix S5 camera, a very slim camera with many functions. i like it. it is very convenient. i bring it with me every where so that i can snap pictures any time of worthy scenes and events.
anyway, my only regret is the price. it was new then so it was still pricey. you can get a higher quality model with sony at a lesser price now adays.
anyway, my nikon had been my trusty companion and it is has been with me for a couple of years already.

If you are looking at getting a DSLR camera I would suggest the Canon Rebel series. The gusts of the camera are the same as their more expensive models and you can get on for around $500 and up depending on the model and the extras you get with it. Then use your savings to buy some good lens for the camera. As you upgrade your camera you can use the same lens.
Good luck and enjoy your photography.

one of my favorite brand out there in the market when it comes to good quality and product is the brand canon. this is the best brand you could get in the market in my opinion. i love taking pictures. i even imagine myself being a photographer in life and i would love to be one. the only contraint for me is the money to buy a good camera out there. the best ones are the most expensive. they could amount to thousands of dollars. all i need to do is to save up my money and take some classes about photography and i would be good to go to start taking professional pictures and probably start my own business. i think i would be very successful if i do this because i love what i am doing and that makes it not a job or work. this makes it a hobby and i'm loving it.

I was where you are in not knowing what to purchase for my first digital. I have a 45mm Canon and like you I liked it but I thought I was ready for a digital. So like you I asked my myLot buddies here and after thinking about all the responses, you guessed it I bought a Canon PowerShot S3IS 6.0 MEGA PIXELS. Zoom 12X. I absolutely love this camera and if I had to do it again Yes I would pick this one. I didn't have mine long before my daughter bought the very same camera. Good luck hon, I know your frustration!!!

Hi.. I used to be a kodak user, had two kodak digital cameras. Im not so satisfied with the result especially at night or with less light. Had heard good things about canon and nikon. Most pro go for the two brands, they are of the same quality and differ on prices only. Nikon is more expensive than canon. At the moment im deciding of what canon model shall i buy. If you're more of the style you go for canon 860 IS, with a 3" LCD and i think its a touch screen as well. Im not quite sure about it. The powershot A650 also could be an option though its quite bulky. But your looking for a pro camera, eos 40D is way to go girl.. I will really go for it if i have the know how of canon. Since i am a soon newbie canon user il maybe go for the A650. Hope you could choose what best suits you but i will really recommend you go for CANON =)

i own a canon aeprogram slr with removable lens. i really enjoy this camera, but my dream camera is a nikon all manual slr camera. depending on your budget, it a nikon is one of the best buys. i was given my first canon slr camera and it has come a long way. i have all the removable lens for that particular canon slr. i didn't invest in the upper end of canon due to buying new sets of lens. if i had the money a slr camera, i would buy my dream cameral the nikon.

I have a Canon film SLR so when I wanted a digital SLR i was leaning towards a Canon also. however, when i went to the store, the Nikon D40 immediately struck me--i felt it was better designed, had a bigger back screen, and it just plain felt better in my hands. So I've had the Nikon D40 now since October and I love it. I don't regret buying it at all.
