I watched the movie "Blood Diamond" last night. I had been hesitant to watch it because I have followed some of the stories on the news over the past few years. I seriously was shocked and appalled about what I saw. Even though it was a movie it was soo close to what they have been saying on the news I was in tears. As soon as the movie was over I went to our jewelers website to make sure that my wedding ring was conflict free. However if truth be told the ways that these people smuggle conflict diamonds into the so called "safe diamonds" there is no certain way to be 100% sure that what you are wearing on your finger, ears, or around your neck was not mined in Africa where hundreds of thousands of people are enslaved and murdered to find these stones. I find it unbelievable at times that such horrors are happening around us. It makes me that much more proud to be an American, but soo much more sad to know the price we are willing to pay for the sake of something so trivial. I told my husband that as much as I loved the jewelry that I didnt want anything real anymore. I have no problem with getting synthetic or man made diamonds. Its the least I can do. Not many people are aware of conflict diamonds or what happens to the people in these countries where they are mined. Its horrible. What is your opinion on the matter?
