Used to be meal times were reserved for the family as a means of catching up on everyone's doings and goings - to laugh, to share, and to reminisce. The family table was the central point of the home. Do you still take meals at the table as a family? or do you all take a plate and go to your own areas of the house... the computer desk, in front of the television, your room? has meal time for you become very informal?

Is your name really Kelly Clarkson or are you just her fan? Sometimes when I was alone I would try and make my dinner time special and set the table nice and turn on some music. I would also enjoy the tv a lot of nights but I would still set the table. Most times I just curled up on my couch with my dinner but I like it when I tried to make it nice.

We are still very much old fashioned when it comes to meal time at our home. We still have family meals. Granted, the number of people around the table has now shrunk from 6 to 3 as my children have one-by-one gone away to college and gotten married, but we can still be found around the table for our evening meal! If the remaining child has a function and isn't home, hubby and I are at the table by ourselves. Like you said, mealtime is a time to talk, catchup and bond. I would never allow folks taking their plates and going their separate ways!

I was raised in a family where my father rarely joined us for dinner. I have to admit for the most part my mom did have a regular dinner time where we all sat together; except of course my dad! When I got married eating anywhere besides the kitchen table was not an option. Then I became a single mom and it was the same thing. Sure there were the odd night of eating in the living room in front of the TV I didn't want to be no fun at all. I do think the dinner table is a valuable and find it said to hear people don't do it. I am now more informal then I use to ever be but always have it in my head that I must not let it become a habit as I believe we need all the tools we can get to help relationship stay nurtured!

We currently don't have room for a table to all sit around. I can't wait til we do though, I really enjoy sitting w/ the family for a meal. When we do have the room and table and chairs, u bet we won't take it for granted! I feel it's very important for everyone to enjoy each other's company and learn how to interact at the dinner table.

We don't eat together at home very often. My husband is on a different schedule for eating than me. I work in the evening, so have already eaten before he comes home. Each week we go out at least one time to talk about life. On Saturday, we spent the whole evening talking about one of his friends who just bought a new television screen without discussing it with his wife. His wife is upset over this purchase, as she felt their old screen is fine. I told my husband that I would be upset if he did the same thing. He told me that he wouldn't even consider getting into the doghouse and this would put him there.

For the most part, normal days we each eat when we want, what we want, and where we want. When the grandkids are here which they have been all weekend and will be all week it looks like - then we do eat one main meal all together except for my youngest son.

I do not, but my parents are very serious about it. When it is meal time, they mean business. That means we sit down at the dining table, turn off the television, and just enjoy a meal as a family. The only time I have remembered to take a plate to own areas of the house was when my parents are very busy with work or have an emergency. Lunch may become informal. My relatives do not take breakfast and lunch as a serious family meal, but dinner is always reserved as a family meal because it is the only time our family get to spend "family quality time" -Feel Free to Disagree

I live by myself and always sit at the table in the kitchen. And when the kids come for a meal we move to the bigger table in the dining room. My granddaughter is just about three and we need to keep her confined to a place for I would have tons to clean up afterwards. And it also serves as a time for us to connect before us girls go shopping or something.

Three Squares a day keeps the Doctor away! And breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We eat at the kitchen Table( the whole family) 3 times a day, and breakfast is at 7 am. Its important to eat a good nutritious breakfast every day. Oatmeal porridge and half a Grapefruit, toast with honey and Cinnamon. Lunch is at 12 noon and consists of green veggies, salads and raw fruit and or Yogurt. Dinner is at 6 pm. I'm always hungry for dinner and I enjoy roast beef and boiled Potatoes with brown gravy and green peas or other cooked veggies. A piece of Homemade apple pie with cheese finishes the meal. I Drink Hot tea (straight) with every meal. Several cups with my dinner.( we raised 4 healthy and well behaved boys and now we have 4 grandkids)

Right now not only do we not have a time when the family gets together to eat, we don't even have a table!@! We have had the house decorated and we got rid of our old dining table. I am being driven to distraction without it. I so want to have a good old fashioned Sunday lunch again. Rather than balancing trays on our knees.
