What Martial Arts equipment have you used?

Some of the things I've used: Gi-our Karate uniforms, to grab someone and for protection from getting cut or scratched. Belts for rank. There was this stick that really wasn't a stick, it was a bunch of possibly bamboo slats tied loosely, when we blocked it stung if we hit a nerve at all or a muscle too hard, but the way it was made, it gave way and colopsed on itself. It was cool, don't know what it was called, where he got it or if he made it himself. Kick and punch pads when I was in training to become a CO. Also a lifelike dummy was used there. In T'ai Chi, a wooden rod to increase chi and make chi come up, then reverse chi to make it go back down. A sword for solo set (like a Kata) and to lengthen chi. As a lone practioner, I used to have a metered pad, I could kick or hit it and it would sort of indicate force by using an easy scale of 1 - 10 and then later on a harder scale of 1-10. So what Martial Arts equipment have you used?

T-shirt and martial arts trousers are our uniform. Our grading is shown on the trousers as a patch and the piping in Krav Maga We use rubber knives and sticks to simulate attacks, to practice dealing with real situations. Kick and punch pads to practice putting full force into attacks. I don't know it's exact name but someone puts on a full body protection suit, so that we are able to put full force into attacking. I wear forearm protection for blocking arms and leg attacks. Our teacher does want us to get head protection and gum shields as well but not many of us have and I still haven't got round to buying shin guards.

Your style must be full contact, both of mine were non to partial contact most of the time. Head and mouth/teeth protectors would be high priorities for me, I've seen people miss their mark and have teeth knocked out. Full contact can also cause head injuries and I have friends who had traumatic brain injuries from accidents. Wouldn't want TBI or a concussion. We never used guards for shins and arms, we did get hit in arms and legs when blocking, but we ended up with really strong arms and legs. Mostly not direct hits. Kick and punch pads are cool, because like you said, you can use full force. Take care and I hope you're able to get more protection soon. I missed the rubber knife lessons almost every time in every style, not sure what that says about things, maybe no one will ever try to knife me? One can only hope.

Krav Maga is full contact, in fact it means contact combat. From the start we are defending and attacking, there is no period of non contact. Rubber knife attacks are fun and we do a lot because krav is more self defence than martial art.

unfortunately only toy nunchuks are legal in my state, must be hollow plastic, mostly incapable of hurting anyone. I have practiced with a wooden sword before. Thank you very much for responding, interesing topic, wish I could learn nunchuks, too.
