How do you stay motivated?

When you are not losing as much as you would like, or you've hit a plateau? I was doing so well for a long time. I was working out every day. I was eating very carefully. I was losing. Then one day I realized it was starting to fall apart. I wasn't working out as often, and I was watching the clock for when I would be done. I have been eating things I shouldn't. So when this happens, what do you do? How do you stop yourself from falling back into old habits?

Find new ways to do old things. Rather than lift weights life kids or run in the park with them or any other way to get the blood pumping and have fun. Sure this type of exercise needs a higher frequency but it can still be effective. Her tried to do star jumps or similar for the length of a kids song? Do this a couple of times a day and you won't need an aerobics class any more! As for eating things you shouldn't...well we all need a treat at times. Just remember why you decided to lose weight in the first place and how good you felt when you were losing it and you will soon get back on track. Good luck and hang in there it's not always easy though! :0)

Thanks, I do a lot of dancing with my son, but it's just not consistent enough to make enough of a difference. It is hard to get outside now, we have about 4 feet of snow on the ground, and a nice thick layer of ice on the ground where the snow has been cleared. The joy of winter! Of course, you are enjoying the fruits of summer, aren't you? It's ok- your time will come. This funk has been hitting me all around- with this, plus my writing and my crafts. I think it's from lack of sunshine! Thanks for your help.

Lucky you! I am so tired of winter. I am craving some warmth and sunshine. I hadn't thought about things that way, but you are right. So I can feel good about sticking with my workouts and routine. And if I don't lose any, I can at least feel good about not gaining. Then, hopefully in the next month, when the weather is warmer, I can go out more and really burn some energy. Thanks!

Yes sunshine is so very important in life. Not wanting to rub it in but we had a beautiful sunny day today. I actually got a little to much on my back and can still feel the sting! Also I live in the tropics so my coldest day is probably like your hottest summer. In my cold months it only goes down to 28c degrees during the day and maybe 17 at night! I didn't even think about it being winter there. You know in the snow your body needs more food to burn fuel for warmth to fight off the cold, so it is not your fault that you are not motivated at the moment. Your body doesn't want you to lose weight right now! :) It is all about looking at things the right way!

You want to keep motivated but your posting on mylot. Your sitting on the computer right now when you can be working out. Think about yourself being thin, Think about your goals, where your at now, and do you want to continue on with your healthy lifestyle? Them thoughts in your head will probably give you a bit of a boost. You want to be at your goal but you are wasting time with things like mylot.

Wow, thanks a lot. A person asks for tips and you start criticizing? Way to make friends. When I want your opinion about whether I am 'wasting my time' I'll let you know. How dare you say things like that without knowing anything about me other than my original post? Maybe I am at work and can't work out right now. Maybe my son is sleeping in the next room and I don't want to wake him. Maybe I am sitting here asking for tips because I Know I should be working out but have no Motivation to do so- hence the discussion. Come back when you have something constructive to add instead of just insults.

Best bet? MIX IT UP!! if you are getting bored with your routines (which from what you've said it sounds like you are) and/or you've hit a plateau..change things around..try different exercises, machines, methods etc....increase your intensity and so on...Thats what I do and it works great for me :-D

Great advice, Raven. You are right, I do get bored sometimes. I usually dance. I have a great collection of music that gets me moving, but even that gets stale after a while. Maybe something as simple as new music will get me a little more into it. But I'll try some different routines as well, though that's hard when I can barely move outside- we are buried in snow up here. I'm longing for spring... By the way, thanks for having my back up there. I can't believe the rudeness of some people.

I have the same problem sillychick and trying to stick to my routine. My excuse is always the weather as I like to get outdoors to exercise. Since winter came along I stopped working out and have put back on a few pounds. Today because it was a nice day I went out with my neighbor and it was great I think we are going to do this several times a week together and the other days on my own. I like listening to music while I walk and when I do walk the bike trails, I am motivated by the older people around me RUNNING and cycling. I need to vary my routine so that it doesn't get boring, its just finding other things to do that I am stuck on. Exercises that don't cost me money LOL

Self motivation is really the way to go, haha... usually I think this way " _____! If your fat nobody would like you, your life would go down the drain, don't you like the attention your getting?" Tell you what, I used to be really fat and life during those times really really sucks! That's why I know the feeling. It's pretty hard getting motivated again after you stop but I suggest doing the right thing bit by bit until you went back into that right old track. I understand how you feel, because I go to the gym and at some point I would stop for a month and become really lazy, but what I do is as I said do things bit by bit until my body got used to it and again I am into my right old track. :)

Good point, it doesn't have to be all or nothing, even if I do a little, and gradually get back to full speed, it's better than falling back into the old lazy habits. Thanks.

I know I am a human that I cannot constantly remind myself what I should eat and what I should not eat. In order to maintain the figure and keep the body fit, I only can try to look after what I should eat. Occasionally, I will give a treat myself. If I have a big meal one supper, I will eat less on the following meal to balance. Sometimes, if I feel like eating something between the meals, I will eat sun flower seeds or water melon seeds to please my taste bud. In the mean time, I will eat that much as it takes time to peel. LOL

Hi, Sometimes I did meditation few years back later I had attended few motivational classes, these class has provided me more of confidence only lack is that follow up these class makes me more back to old habits. Still from these classes I learned one main aspect is that we ourselves are the best motivators only thing is we have to take in the appropriate time with more power and confidence. Nothing is impossible you can do it.

friend, the best way to keep yourself motivated to loose weight is to ask a friend or brother or sister or anybody to acompany you while working out. this way you want realis where the time passes and working out would become fun. to control yourself from eating useless things you should keep yourself busy in other activities hich you enjoy and can get deeply engrossed in it. stay away from watching tv for long as it tempts us to bring something to eat while watching tv and seat doing nothing.
