Do vitamins help ward off illness?

I'm the only one in our family that takes a multi vitamin on a daily basis, and I'm the one who is the least sick among my whole family! Do you think that's just a coincidence or do you think taking a multi vitamin does help build up my immune system so that I don't get sick as often?

I do take mulit vits now after the surgery for I thought I needed them and Docs thought they were good ones that I bought but I was never sick before so I dont know if they have helped or not hugs

Vitamin C is supposed to help boost your immune system. As is garlic and echinacea. I take all of these however and catch every bug and virus going! I'm always getting sick. I suppose it depends on the person!

I also take vitamins daily, and I hardly ever get sick. Sometimes my officemates are puzzled as to why I never catch colds. Just the past month everybody had a cold at one time or another, except for me. I also can't remember the last time I got a fever, because it was so long ago. So taking vitamins really works for me.

I've never been able to consistently take vitamins but I'm one of the healthiest people around. I've always believed in moderation in everything - eg. a little bit of sun but not too much, a little bit of junk food but not too much etc. I always sort of knew that you had to expose yourself some to pick up immunity and NOW the reasearchers are saying the same thing. I just saw in this week's newspapers where they are saying that many people protect themselves too much from the environment and never build up any immunity and that's why they get sick so much. How about that!

I do think a good multi vitamin can help you feel well. But there are alot of other factors involved, like do you keep your stress level down, do you wash your hands alot, are you one of those folks who just don't sweat it, do you excercise? Do you eat well. So many things figure into your good health. It could be your constitution, you probably have a strong constitution. I've know people who take all kinds of supplements, and they're still sick. Maybe you have good health karma, too. Just keep doing whatever you're doing, and be grateful for your good health.
