When you are on your computer...which do you prefer?

Are you a mouse user or do you try to avoid using your mouse as much as possible by using shortcut keys on your keyboard? I try to use my keyboard as much as I can. I actually get excited when I learn a new shortcut. I know...I am such a nerd!

I use the mouse to scroll up & down the page, however I like to use keyboard shortcuts to do many many things, like Ctrl A to highlight everything on the page which makes it easy to then hit Ctrl C to copy & then Ctrl V to paste. I know quite a few keyboard shortcuts because eventhough I am not currently working due to a medical problem I am a transcriptionist so the keyboard shortcuts do make a lot of tasks much faster & easier for me. At first when I was learning them or whenever I am learning a new one it can be slow at first because you really have to think about it. But then, after you get used to it, it becomes habit and I find I don't even miss a beat while typing & incorporating shortcuts into the flow. I can type approximately 70+ wpm and I think if I were to lift my hand to manuveur the mouse everytime I wanted to copy, cut, paste, etc. then it would really slow me down. Oh, and cortjo73, you're NOT a nerd... just resourceful! :)

I prefer the ctrl c and ctrl p too. But, you taught me a new one with the ctrl A to highlight. I usually just use the shift and arrow to highlight text. I didn't know about ctrl A. Thanks! That was helpful info! Sorry to hear of your injury. Using the mouse slows me down too! I like to be quick and efficient and anything that slows me down just makes me feel a little less than that! And, thank you for changing my mind about being "resourceful"! I like that better!

I know c,and z, but, most of those others, I did not know. And, I used the A a little bit ago! You have been very helpful to me today! Thank you! I hope you have a great day too!

Let me see if I can teach you a few more then... Do you know any of these?... Ctrl. X is cut Ctrl. E is center on page Ctrl. R is right justify Ctrl. L is align text left Ctrl. U is underline Ctrl. Z is my ultimate favorite... It deletes the last thing you typed or did (like if you make a mistake & are like OMG what the heck did I do... hit Ctrl. Z to fix it!) Ctrl. B is bold If I think of any others I will let you know! Hope you have a terrific day! ~ Jill

I try to use the keyboard as much as I can. It's faster to use the keyboard. And since I've used Windows since the days of Windows 3.1, I know most keyboard shortcuts. I also assign keyboard shortcuts to applications that I use frequently, so I can open them using the keyboard. It also helps you to operate the computer when your mouse is broken. (Or your monitor. You don't need to see the monitor to be able to use keyboard shortcuts, So you can still listen to tunes while the monitor is at the service centre.)

Until recently (as in last weekend) I used windows for as long as I have used a computer. But, this past weekend I got an Apple laptop (MacBook)and am having to learn all of their functions and shortcuts. It has been a little bit of a challenge but something I am enjoying rising to. Because I don't know all of the shortcuts, I am having to use my mouse (touchpad)a little more than I prefer. But, eventually I'll get it!

Me? I am a mouse user! I use my mouse because it is faster. But I do interleave with keyboard shortcuts to make my computer experience more efficient.:)

I like to use the mouse often than the keyboard. I think it was the other way around than you.

LOL! You are the opposite of me! I still use my mouse a bit but, if I can avoid it, I do! Thank you for your response!

I use a laptop now and it does not have a mouse. But when I had a computer (when I was 13) I did not surf the net much but played games and broke it by playing too much.

LOL! That is funny! How long did it take before the computer actually broke with your game playing? I have two laptops. One is my hubby's and he keeps it on the counter in the kitchen and he plugged a mouse into it. It is easier to use that way. But, I just bought a new MacBook laptop and I didn't get a mouse for it. The pad (why can't I think if the right things to call the parts of computers today?) works really well on my MacBook. It is one of the best I have come across. Some are too sensitive, some are not sensitive enough even when you adjust the settings. Mine came perfect!
