I have a 88 Ford f150 pickup that does not start. I am not getting any spark. I have replaced the atlernator, the plugs, the wires, the distrubutor cap and rotor. A friend told me to change the pick up coil in the didtributor. Do you think this is the problem and if so how do I replace it?

There is a site called FAQ Farm that covers the ins and outs of mechanical repairs for most brands of vehicles. The link here http://www.faqfarm.com/Q/FAQ/1095 is specifically for Ford F-150 owners. Your pick up coil is located at the base of the distributor and plugs into the ignition module. The pick up coil's purpose is to sense or "pick up" the pulses of the distributor and tell the ignition module when to fire the spark plugs. The most critical part of the replacement of the pick up coil is to make certain you properly mark the orientation of the distributor to the engine block and the rotor to the distributor base.I would guess it is more likely that your ignition module is bad since it supplies the spark. I'm more of a GM man myself, but changing of the coil/ignition module is fairly simple and can be done in a relatively short amount of time. You can also ask at your local parts house for the simplest method, and they should be able to give you a couple of time saving hints.
