do you help a stranger when he is in need?

old peoples always use to tell not to take help or to help strangers.is that true?if it is please explain in what way?

Old people saying so ,just to take care of your safty. If you are a child , You'd better not to talk to strangers.You know ,it's really a danger to talk with strangers alone. But if you are an adult. It depends on situation.I believe adult have the ability to do the right thing.don't you think so?
