Good News for a Change...

I really like the concept of Happy News but I find the site quite unappealing. They seem to spend an awful lot of column inches explaining why good news is such a positive thing and actually I struggled a bit to find an aaw moment. Laughing at Nigeria's use of English doesn't do it for me - I'm not Nigerian and I find mocking others in a pseudo academic way very patronising and a bit offensive. But it is a step in the right direction, so for that reason, more power to their elbow.

Yes, this is a good site. I have had it in my favorites for a year. I very rarely watch the news on tv. The last time I did, it was just one sad story after another. After all, I can get all the bad news I need online. It is depressing and I am sure it can upset some people so much they fall deeper into any depression they may be suffering, My partner has depression and hardly ever watches tv, unless it is a comedy. PEACE

That is the sort of thing I feel they should include in at least a corner of every news source. Truly the bad news should be balanced with the good. Thanks for brightening my day. I get my news from the Best Week Ever Blog. www.bwe.tv. Sure it's mostly celebrity gossip, but it's my entertainment for the day. Since I was a little kid I've always hated the news because that's ALL news is. They have those fluff stories in between segments and all but 90% of the news on tv is bad bad bad. So I just don't watch it. I read BWE because it's got some of the information going on in the world today, but mostly it's just fun entertaining celebrity gossip.

Happy News is needed more often - thank you for sharing your link! I think part of the problem is we become so desensitized by all the bad news that we don't even realize how terrible this world is becoming. There was another school shooting a few weeks ago (maybe longer?) but I didn't even pay any attention to it because there have already been so many...I think I do need to read the happy news!

Thank you very much for providing us this website. It sounds refreshing. I think everyone deserves a little good news today. and everyday. I am saving this in my favorites and will make it a part of my daily ritual. My mom's town has a free local paper that prints no *bad* news, only *good*. The Fostoria Focas. She lives an hour away from me and it is nice to know that I can access something from here that can compare. Thanks again.

For years, we've been reading and hearing about violence, wars and killings in our newspapers and on the TV news. The only difference now is that it has gotten worse over the years, and news relating to violence overwhelm all the over news reported. When we read and hear too much of these, we tend to forget that there are many other good stuff out there that warrant our attention and which can make living more worthwhile. The site you have recommended is indeed a refreshing change, and for once we can do without the violence and depressing news. I certainly want to thank you for sharing this with us.

It sounds like a great idea for a site. The news is so depressing with all of the things that are going on. It seems like all the bad stuff gets thrown in our faces and the few good things that happen get swept under the rug. Thanks for the link.

Well, the way I look at it is, if it isn't something sensensional it wouldn't make the news. And as bad as the bad stuff happens in this world, we need to be informed of them. But at the same time I totally agree with you and like to see some good news for a change. But then the good stuff doesn't always make the news because people aren't interested in hearing the good stuff since it doesn't really reflect their lives. Without bad news there wouldn't be much for them to report.

This is a great site, thanks for sharing. We all need some good news. The bad news can be so overwhelming at times. I think the news media needs to tell us more good news instead of all bad news. All bad news does get depressing.

In canada we have news casts on tv anyways that are usually more upbeat then the news i see on the tv for the states. Sometimes they have segments that are dedicated to people who have done good things in the community and kids who have done good things. New programs that are starting, its not just bad bad bad bad. I think that's the way the news should be, good and bad. after all the news is not supposed to be just making us scared to leave our house!

I know that bad news all the time can cause depression in some people. Some of my friends don't get the newspaper and don't watch the news on tv. They might listen to the weather on the radio and that's about it. I read the newspaper backwards. Jobs are good, comics are fun, knowing about how to take care of yourself medically is good, my horoscope is usually good. By the time I get to the bad stuff, I've toughened myself up with those things. The fact is, every day some good things do happen in the world. Thanks for this site, I think my friends will love it. I'll have to check it out, too. Personally, I think there is a lot of good news in my life. Take care

I can't agree more!! The site is awesome!! I love it!! I can't understand why the bad news makes it to the front page faster than any good news. People see or hear the bad first before the good and it should be the other way around. I was told that people are attracted to the bad more than the good. Why is that?
