I got so frustrated today when the internet provider that we have here in my country declined my request for service upgrade. They have this package now that provided 384kbps unlimited internet broadband connection + telephone line + laptop at only $37.40 per month. Wow! Don't you think it's super cheap? Though I am an existing subscriber, I want to avail of their special offer for the free laptop that comes with the package. My 6-year old daughter would have loved to have her own laptop since its just suited to her needs. The laptop that comes with the package is the Asus Eee PC 2G SURF. I told their internet providers personnel that I may have to request for the cut-off of my current internet service so that I could avail of the new one. But heck! its a big bother when they could just have me upgraded.
How about you my fellow mylotters? Did you also get a free laptop with your internet connection from where you come from? What's the deal from there?

Offers like that are becoming very common. Here in Florida Verizon is offering a free 20 inch HDTV. The danger is in the contract. You need to have their service for 2 years or they bill you for the TV and make you pay penalties for ending your service before the contract ended. Earthlink and AOL used to give out free digital cameras and you only had to keep their service for 3 or 6 months depending on your plan. That's more reasonable since I have no idea where I'll be living in 2 years.

I am fine with the 2 years lock in period since I understand the side of the provider since the laptop is part of their investment and they need to recover it. If they don't have that lock in period, I am sure that a lot of people would just abuse it and run away with the laptops. I think its a fair deal.

wow! what a great deal! what internet service provider is it? i'm using smart broadband. i didn't get anything for free when i subscribed. and i think its seldom that they have promos for broadband subscribers. currently they have a promo that broadband subscribers can buy a 4G flash memory disk for only 400 pesos (around $11 dollars). its very cheap compared to the current price of that item in the market. i am actually planning to buy one.
if i were in your position i'd be asking the same thing too! so did they agree to upgrade your account or not?

Hello there... After quite sometime I'm here again [but probably not for long...] B-)
I believe that such a service upgrade is so amazing that it sounds too good to be true and actually, and if I were in your position I would be very disappointed of their action towards my request.. I wish such an offer would be available here in the south [or maybe I'm not as informed about all offers... LOL]
But as for your question, it is very unfortunate that no laptop is provided in the package in which we are subscribed in, and to tell you frankly, I know very little about it (I mean, the internet package deal) because only my sister knows how things are set in our web services..
I just wish you could get the upgrade soon as I agree that kids such as yours would enjoy the technology..

I was pretty disappointed because I really want the laptop. The offer is available in Cebu and Davao only until March 9, 2008, as indicated in the website. However, there is a way around it and I would certainly have my way. Thanks very much for responding! Long time not to hear from you and I hope you see you here every now and then.

No, i got nothing for upgrading my service to adsl +2 with unlimited download. I actually upgrraded because a foreign representative for my ISP called up and asked if we wanted it upgraded. Now i heard about these laptops i feel very ripped off.
