WEll... im british. and i enjoy cooking a lot!.. however i live in braZil, and all my recipes are from britain... this means they include self-raising flour!... so the other day i tried to make a rasberry sponge cake ( i must say the ones i make are pretty good ) , and as self-raising flour is not available in brazil i had to cook using flour and yeast!!!! total disaster... well i started this discussion to hear what british cooks who live abroad have done to improvise due to lack of ingredients!
