My Sam is a strange critter. He is verified of fire. He will not go near the fire place lit of not, if you flick a lighter in the same room with him he runs from the room as fast as he can as if the most terrifying thing in the world was after him. My husband says it is because he is a long haired cat and my flammable then the others. He also has some health problems that has him on a special diet, last week I decided to give him so Reiki to help with his sick tummy, well you would have thought I had just yanked a hand full of hair out. He left my lap so fast and refused to come back at all that night. It took him nearly 2 full days to come around again. The other pets come running if they feel me start a treatment because they want in on it, even the fish are Reiki junkies. Sam is just crazy, I have decided that about him. My husband thinks of him as Moose from the Archie comics, the big dumb lovable guy, and I am starting to think he is right. But he is my Sam and I love him.

He is a funny big guy. I can't help but laugh at him a lot. He weighs in at about 18 lbs give or take depending on if he is sick at the time of weighing him. He is 6 years old and still plays like a kitten. There is nothing funnier then an 18 lbs cat who looks like he is over 20 lbs for the amount of hair running around in circles chasing their tail. He plays fetch with me if I through his favorite toy. I really is the silliest cat I have ever owned. I am not sure why he is so afraid of some things, he has never experienced hurt other then cat fights and having his sick tummy, well I also had him fixed.

I had to do a double take with your discussion because believe it or not, I have a cat named Sammy too AND he's so like your cat, scared of his own shadow!! No kidding!! I'm starting to wonder if it's something to do with the name!?! LOL What color is your Sammy? Mine is orange and white and YES he has long fur!! This is almost surreal!! Wow. Sometimes my Sammy will come to me but for the most part, he won't. We got him as a stray, more or less, he adopted us and we were able to pet him a few times and then I caught him and took his butt to the vet to get his shots and to be nuetered. He'll come to us when it suits his fancy but other than that, he'll run off but I know he'll be back because we keep food on our porch table for him and another stray that adopted us too. This is too funny!!

My Sammy is a Maincoon cross he has traditional Maincoon markings the brown tabby markings. He is normally a very loving cat and actually has a problem with thinking he is my spouse. I took him to the vet for attacking my husband because I thought he was sick, the vet said that his bread of cat bonds to one person very strongly and can be aggressive if they feel someone else is moving in on their turf. Sammy came from a pet store, we went to Edmonton from Calgary for a hockey game and spent the night, the next day we went to West Edmonton Mall to play in the mall for the day and while we where there we decided to get some treats for the dogs and cats because they where left at home and we felt bad. When we walked into the pet store there was a cage of kittens Sammy reached out and grabbed my husbands hat off his head and took it into the cage with them, the store had to open up the cage to get the hat. When I came back from picking out cat treats my husband was holding the kitten that took his hat and was in the process of buying him. I had to drive 4 hours with the cat on my lap and spent 3 days trying to stop the other boys from killing him for coming into their home. Sammy was my husbands cat but he bonded to me. There are just something he doesn't like having done. Trimming his hair, he hates fire, he hates Reiki, and he will not stay in the room if my husband touches me but if I am just sitting he will come and climb up on me and stay as long as I will let him. He is my boy, I spent a lot of time trying to save his life when he got sick a few years ago; a good friend and I sat up all night for 2 nights working on him until the vet could see him. We lived in a small town and the vet was away treating a farmers cattle for mad cow. That is sammy's life story in a nut shell. Your guy sounds like my brothers cat Sunny, he was an orange tabby long haired cat. Sweat little guy but what a flake he could be also.

I can understand all animals being afraid of fire - a natural instinct.
And then there is my friends cat.
He just loves fire - the closer the better!
His favourite place is behind the coal stove where it must be 100 degrees. It is sooo hot that his fur is now brittle and comes off in chunks when you stroke him.
Are some cats mad?
