Taking time out for yourself

How often do you set aside time to relax, and just pay attention to yourself? I try to spend a little time everyday on myself, but sometimes I think i'm being neglectful of my child. Even if he is sleeping, or if it is late in the evening. How can I get rid of this irrational idea?

Funny you should ask that. My husband just took the kids skating (today was a no bus day after last night's snow storm) and I was really considering laying down and having a nap.
Because I have fibromyalgia, and have had it for 11 years, I don't feel guilty. Actually just the opposite. I NEED the time to relax and I don't get it. I am tired all the time and in pain, but household chores and family always seem to get in the way. LOL! Actually, I've started to get the kids to help out more. But when they were younger and I was first diagnosed, I sure as heck DID feel guilty, and I still feel guilty about not being able to contribute financially to my household.
We're mothers. Guilt is our middle name.

Thank you for shedding some well needed humorous light on the subject for me. I was actually in a deparment store a couple weeks ago. When I walked pass a mirror, and I was terrified because I was unaware it was me. From that day forward I vowed to spend more time keeping it together. I'm glad you could relax today. You deserve it!

Wow! And I thought it was just me! LOL! My 14 year old bugs me because I never buy anything for myself, that I am always buying them stuff. Not that she wants me to stop buying stuff for them; she just wants me to get treated too. Isn't she sweet?

I dont set aside time to relax and pay attention to myself, I should but I just dont seem to get the time. I certainly dont think you are being neglectful of your child as it is important for us to have time for ourselves, but I think we just automatically feel guilty if we do have a bit of time. Just tell yourself that its good for you and your child because with you having time for you will mean you are more relaxed and happy, rather than like me, stressed out and wound up!!!

Thank you for telling me that, sometimes you just need someone else to validate your emotions. So now I am going to feel more comfortable about going to the bathroom! LOL

I only hope I can have more time on my son. By the way, I am working. If I stay at home, I may wish I can have time for myself.
