Okay ladies, what do you do for cramps?

Seriously, they have gotten so bad lately, that at times it is like being in labor. The doctor says that nothing is wrong. I've had five kids, and I'm 32. I am at wits end. Yep, its currently that time of the month and I'm in agony. How the heck am I supposed to function as wife and mom when I just want to curl up in bed? Advil, Tylenol and Aleve don't seem to cut it...
Ideas?

Do you use heat as well as pain killers? I use a hot water bottle or a lavender filled heat bag can be very soothing. Hot baths help me too.
I feel your pain, I suffered so badly for so long that I was screaming, throwing up, passing out - you name it.
What I find really quite helpful is investing in a TENS machine. Mine really helps me when nothing else does.

Something else I forgot to mention; is part of your problem the heavy flow? If so, something like mefanamic acid tablets can help to lessen the flow and therefore reduce cramps. Ask your doctor about it, or if he's still not helpful, I suggest seeking a second opinion.
Raspberry leaf supplements taken with hot liquid around the time of your period can also help lessen the flow. I also suggest evening primrose oil and starflower supplements at that time of the month.
Are you using pads or tampons? Try looking into "Mooncups". Many women say that by using them they reduce cramps and they're more environmentally and economically friendly.

Aw I know how you feel, I was the same before I took the contraceptive pill. Have you tried it? Has your doctor given prescribed you anything? I also find a hot water bottle is good when cramps are severe.

Someone told me dairy products. So I try to eat more yogurt the week of my period.
I also use Execdrin for Migraines and that does help me.

I usually pop a 800mg Ibuprofen and throw on a portable heating pad (once of those menstrual ones you can get in the pharmacy department), they're supposed to last like 8hrs long, and they do. I've always had really bad cramps, in fact I've passed out from the pain...makes me wonder what my first labor is going to be like :(

I use to have the same problem, but I then read that chamomile tea helps relieve the paid, and I tried it and it worked. Hopefully this helps you.

My sister had cramps so bad one time that she couldnt even move or antyhing. She had no kids or anything. Well she went to the doctors to get checked they said nothing was wrong. A few weeks later she had them so bad she went again and come to find out a sist burst that was on her overies or somewhere in that area. Anyways, if that isnt the problem I get them a lot too and I just take meds of at least 1000mgs.

Heating pads often offer a lot of comfort for me at that time of month; you can even get the kind that stick to the inside of your pants, so you can walk around and function. Caffeine can also irritate cramps, so try to steer clear of it during that time of month. Stretching and exercising also can help, but it's hard to picture that when you're curled up in bed, lol.
