Why are they hanging around... They are swamming around outside. The kids and I tried to have a picnic outside today for lunch and the wasps wouldn't leave us alone.. The kids screamed and grabbed their food and ran inside.... I hate them...
Does anyone know why we have these stupid wasps, what are their purpose?
I know they were introduced into Australia, but for what reason?
Mistake or stupidty...
Any tips for keeping them away??

probably mistake, the English really had sh*t for brains since they basically have screwed up alot of Australia. I also hate them and they are one of the animals me, and my friends think just exist to get killed. yea they probably exist to help pollenice flowers and stuff but thats not interesting at the moment.
Here are some links, i hope you find anything useful here

Ive taken out two wasp nests so far, the first one was with a good friend. First we were armed with some powerful squirtguns and a sportbottle filled with warm water. After shooting the nest with our squirtguns, we waited until they calmed down. Then i placed the bottle under the nest(the nest was in a fence) and stamped very hard on the bottle. A jet stream of warm water thrusted into the nest and f****d it up pretty good, after that it was just to run for cover.
The other one was in a large sand container you can sometimes find alongside roads, it was sitting on the lid. I used a bandy stick and whacked the sh*t out of it and ran.

Your welcome. Its a pleasure to be of help. Forgot to tell this, after i squirted that bottle of warm water into the nest, not mutch was left. The wasps that had survived were mostly halfdead, just to give them a good stomping and clean up the mess.

I like to blast the hive with a high pressure water hose.

I don't know where their hive is... But hope it isn't close to my home... I did try bug spray at them and then ran away.......

Wasps don't usually fly too far from their hive, I don't think. So go on a quick search around the house, but be careful.

What kind of wasps are they? I hope they are not European wasps, which are quite dangerous. Do they have obvious stripes on them?
I haven't had much of a problem with wasps, but I do know that they are attracted to dog food & open can s of cool drink, so remove these from outside.
Other than that, you need to find the wasp nest. Does it appear to be near your yard?
If they are European wasps you can report them to your local council.

I'm pretty sure thay are the European wasp they are bright yellow with Black strips... We had two inside next to the kids when they were about to eat their dinner. I wasn't happy.... I just can't believe how many are around. I have Never in my whole life seen that many.. It has only been the odd one ocassionally....
I didn't know you could report them to your loacal council. I can't see any nest about my house unless they have found a good place to hide.....
hmmm... Thank you jennybianca for your help...

My husband and both my daughters are allergic to bee stings so bees concern me a lot. They have to carry anka kits to give themselves shots when they get stung.
It is still too cold here for bees yet. I hate them.

Yes, We're experiencing this as well. It was quite a worry at first but I find now I'm becoming used to them. There are mud wasps, paper wasps and some smaller than paper wasps. I don't know what these last ones are or how dangerous they are but that is what there is the most of. They are mainly in the garage. I just hope I don't grab hold of something and discover there is a nest on the underside...ouch! That's the otrher thing...I haven't seen a nest for these wasps....Hmmmm. Just be careful...ok?
