Do they work? can you get addicted to them and do you have to be a fruit loop to take them?
I have been having a really difficult time recently, death in the family, debts piling up, stress at work etc etc and my GP who is a family friend has advised me going on anti depressants!
I originally bulked at the idea as I kept claiming I wasnt depressed simply tired, run down, teary (oh yeah all the symptoms of depression) and I thought he was mad even suggesting it but them another friend said they arent addictive and that they would simply help me cop better with day to day things!
Is this the case? do they help even when you are only a little depressed?
Im sooooooooooooooo confused?

Dear deedee,
Because you don't have a permanent problem with depression,I think that it is not necessary for you to take anti depressants, first of all you must try something else, for instance try to drink linden tea or hot milk with honey, and before going to bed, take a hot bath every evening. If you can't sleep take a herbal medicine for insomnia named Valerian Root which is also good for all the symptoms of depression (but it is not deppressant). You will find it in the farmacy without a perscription and it is not expensive. You must know that it's a natural source because it is made from plants. Thess pills are not addictive and soon you will feel better. Be strong and try to spend more time with people that love you.

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through a hard time. Yes they do help I've been on anti-depressants for awhile. Although they dont take everything away it does help ease the pain. They arent addictive as long as they arent narcotic.I would suggest counseling also , it makes a world diffrence just to talk about it and get it out

Sorry to hear about your problems. Yes, Antidepressants do help. I've been on SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) for years. I was diagnosed as a chronic mild depressive at the age of 30. My therapist traced my depression right back to my childhood. It took me many years of emotional struggle before I finally swallowed my pride and admitted to my doctor that I wasn't coping. I had always prided myself on how emotionally strong I was and felt that admitting to not coping was an admission of weakness. Now I realise that there is NO SHAME in suffering from depression. It is merely a case of a chemical imbalance in the brain.
The only issue I have had with anti depressants over such a long term (12 years) is that they seem to have affected my short term memory. Apart from that I cope much better when I am on them.
