Plagarism

i have just been really annoyed by an author on helium.
I was looking through my articles when I noticed one of my best had been pushed off the top spot. I looked to see who the competition was and read their article.
They hadn't even bothered to hide the fact that they had copied and pasted from wikipedia, they even kept the same headings so it was word for word. Looking at their other articles I ended up reporting a further three articles before getting bored and just reporting the author.
Really annoys me that it took hours of research and writing to write my article and then they spend two minutes to copy and paste and then people rate it better than mine

You have my most extreme sympathies. I have had this happen to some of my articles, too.
Unfortunately, cheating and plagiarism is a way of life for some people. And while Helium does take plagiarism seriously, we (the honest writers) still bear the brunt of other writers' dishonesty.
There is good news . . . plagiarism on Helium is not as bad as it was in the beginning.
If you are unsatisfied with the results of your recent reporting, write to me from my About Me page; I might be able to help you.

Again, I share your frustrations. Intimately!

That is such a pain in the whatsit. Good for you for reporting them and I hope their stuff gets removed. It's people like that that mess it up for the rest of us who actually enjoy writing and get satisfaction out of seeing our own words up there! DOWN with plagarism!!! It sucks!

Boy that is annoying! I spend time on my articles too, I never plagarise! Usually the topics I write on, I already know More than enough about! So I rarely have to use the internet at all. It's annoying to know that they are cheating on Helium like this. I'm glad you reported them, thanks! =P Good move, I was going to suggest that hehe.

That just bites. I am glad that you reported them and that they were removed.
Yeah, it annoys the heck out of me that an obvivous plagarised article can do better than one from a writer who worked on it for hours. And all they (the rip-off artists) are after is a quick buck. They care less about developing their craft.

Not sure what actually annoyed me more someone obviously plagarising or that one of my articles that I considered good was demoted because of it. Guess I will have to improve my article anyway

That must make you feel really annoyed, I must say. I suggest that you may want to complain to the Helium Admin as many of the plagarised articles were being removed after their investigation revealed so. I think I saw a similar topic back in Helium's own forum. These people ought to be taught a lesson or else there can be no level playing field for us, the writers.

I wouldn't worry too much about this plagiarism incidents, because Helium will find out sooner or later. You will be making the spotting process quicker by flagging or reporting these writers. I know it can sometimes be a pain in the neck when you know that your articles are pushed down and you are potentially earning less due to that, but justice will prevail and these people will be banned from the site and their earnings taken away from them. I've taken part in a number of contests and the number of people plagiarising are enormous. I feel angry and anxious sometimes, but I just report them and Helium removes them within 2-3 days. I guess it's something to get used to since we are in the information age where info can just be pasted and copied.

I have to say I was annoyed but was strangely satisfied when the author had been removed from Helium within a couple of hours
