Does your cat sleep on your stuff because they miss you?

Yesterday I got home and realized I had left my soft housecoat on the couch. On top of the housecoat was my sleeping cat. I said to hubby ahhh she misses me when I am not home. I figured the scent of me was why she chose to sleep there as she misses me when I am not home. Hubby disagreed and said no she just wanted somewhere comfortable and warm to sleep. I like to think it is me. How about your cat?

My two cats, Waffles and Columbus, will sleep on practically anything that is soft and warm, such as a coat or sweater. But most of all, those cats love to sleep on my bed on an old warm orange blanket. When I looked tonight, Columbus was sleeping at the foot of the bed, while Waffles was curled up on the pillow. Later on, they will sleep with me on the bed in their usual places. Mimi prefers to sleep on the radiator or in the sunporch.

LOL, that is so true! Even when I am in a deep sleep, I just stay put for as long as I can without tossing and turning. The babies don't care for a lot of movement on my part, either, and will jump off the bed if I toss and turn too much. I wish that they would jump off the bed when they have to puke, though. My other cat did, but she was a clean, sweet, loving little girl for all of her 14 years, whom I lost in October 2006.

In my discussion on siamese cats I was reminiscing about my siamese mix I had a while back: whenever I'd leave the house, she would get into my closet (no matter how I tried to tie the doors), pull all my clothes off the hungers and sleep on them! I used to think that she was doing it out of spite (how did I dare to leave her!), but now I think maybe she missed me. She was extraordinarily attached to me.

I guess they do miss us when we're gone. My cat spot had to choose (of all my shirts) the bright yellow comfy tee that I really like to use a lot as a place to sleep on. And that shirt was newly laundered! And when she can't get hold of any of my shirts, she pounces on me. I remember one time, I was so busy at work, I would come home late and my cats wouldn't be able to see me or me see them. Come Saturday when I went out on the porch, Spot made a cry and pounced on me and kept rubbing her body and head and tail. LOL. A neighbor who saw this laughed and I told him that I wasn't able to see them for a week. Guess, my cat did miss me.

It depends entirely on the cat.
I've got cats that will sleep ON me, even tho that isn't the most comfortable place to sleep because they want to be close. I had one that slept on my pillow because he missed me - stopped when I came home.
On the other hand, some cats do it for the reasons your husband mentioned.
Cats are funny beasties....

When my parents cat was younger, he often like to stick his head into peoples shoes, cant really understand why he did that. It was really funny to se him, sticking his head into peoples shoes, like if he wanted to check who was the owner of the different shoes.
Also, everytime i visit my parents nowadays, i often pet any of the three cats that the guy that my parents rent their house from has. After that Leo(his name) takes a little moment to smell my hand so he really knows its me. Today i really didnt feel like holding my hand in front of him, so i threw a glove i have used close to him, i guess he smelled on it for a good 10 seconds.

Ok, this is a good one. My cat sticks her head in my slippers when she wants attention. It makes me wonder if thats what she does when I'm not home. When I come home, I often find her sleeping in my chair or in her little bed with her blanket. When I am home she sleeps in front of the heater, sprawled out on the floor. Its cute.

I have a purple cardigan that one of my kitties uses as a security blanket. I had to give up and just let her have it because I was always chasing her to get it back. Even when I'd hide it, she'd find it again and drag it around the house in her mouth.
And both of my kitties steal my socks all the time. I've given up on ever having a matching pair again. I don't mind so much though as I suppose it shows they love their momma.
Once I found a secret cache under an armchair. There were eleven or so socks that they'd stashed there, like a nest!

yes your cat slept on the coat because she misses you. i can almost say for sure coz my cats have this habit too. they hate it when i send the item for washing. they'd ignore the item for days until i put it on and take it off again. maybe you want to try washing your coat to show that your cat doesn't give a hoot about warm and comfortable unless it has your scent on it. my cats only sleep where we have slept before. they really enjoy anything that has our scent on it.

I don't know why cats curl up on things like one of your sweaters or other clothes if you leave it on a couch. I think it is either because they miss you or your scent. But, I know from experience that, if I have been wearing a sweater and I get too warm and take it off, lay it on the couch and leave it there for a while, one of my cats will inevitably lie down on it. Even when I am still in the house and maybe even when I am sitting right next to her. I just sort of thing it is like a blanket. Why curl up on just the couch when you can curl up on something bundled up and softer than the couch on top of the couch.
But, it could be about you and your cat missing you. Perhaps a little of both.
One other thing is that I have placemats on my table that I usually will stack up and put under a wood tray thing I keep in the center of my kitchen table. If I forget to put the placemat in the stack under the tray thing, one of my cats will lie down on top of it. I am certain that it has nothing to do with me or my scent being on it and everything to do with the fact that it is a softer surface than the cold, hard wood table.
Cats like cushy! They are all little princes and princesses! LOL! But, they do love us too and I think that deep down, some of the things they lie on are just to be close to us when we are absent.
