My family and I used to love this movie growing up. It was one of Patrick Swayze's first roles. I bought it a few years ago on DVD and I'm so glad I did! I loved the role of Charles, played by Lewis Smith (Heavenly Kid), who was the rebellious outcast cousin of Orry Main in the movie. He was so hilarious and adoreable! He about made the movie as well. However, my favorite storylines were Madeline and Orry and Brett and Billy. I hated that they changed Billy in book II however because I loved John Stockwell as Billy. Although, being that they did change actors, I'm glad that they chose Parker Stevenson (The Hrdy Boys) because he was so cute in the role! I really hated that they changed the actor who played Charles in Book III because the actor who they chose to play him (Kyle Chandler, Early Edition) looked much younger than Lewis Smith. Also, I hated that Orry and Constance was killed in Book III and that Patrick Swayze was not in it. However, I was pretty happy with Madeline going with George, although I would have prefered it if Constance and Orry were not killed off and wished that the couples had remained together, as they had been in the origonal two movies. Needless to say, the first two books were my favorites. What about you? How do you feel and which books and storylines were your favorites (by books, I don't mean the actual books but the movies they were adapted into. I have never read the books actaully)?
