How important are credit cards today? I have three of my own and I don't know what I would do without them. There are many types of cards out there for all types of credit. Which are the best? Who has the best rewards?

Sadly I think its what most Americans rely on to live now a days. I have a few cards, one for basic needs, one for clothing, and one for furniture but I'm paying everything off so gladly I wont be paying large bills each month!
