Do the new keyboard drive you nuts?

We got new computers at home. HP Pavilions, and the keyboard are a bit different from old HP keyboards. They are flatter, even the keys are flatter. That made it a little strange at first when typing felt like I was hitting all the wrong keys. But the thing that drives me nuts is the placement of the Delete, Home and End keys. Used to be Home was above End and Delete was to the left of End. (Insert was to the left of Home). On these new keyboards they have the Home key above the Delete key and the Delete key is twice as big - vertically! End is now to the right of Home and above the Page Up/Down keys. Everytime I want to hit End I hit Delete! PFFT! I really really don't like this new-fangled layout!! Any of you have similar gripes? ~Tink

I have a keyboard here that has a bigger ENTER key in it, I always have trouble configuring it whenever I use my sister's PC. It has a smaller ENTER key, flat and also hard for me to type at. There's also those keyboards on laptops, that I happen to have a hard time typing at because it's lower and too sensitive when hitting the letters.

I have similar experience but with my notebooks. I have been attached to Toshiba notebook for such a long time and when it was broken two weeks ago (wow, it has been two weeks!) and I had to get a new Axioo notebook for myself (because I found it was cheaper and lighter to bring), and the keys just make me crazy. you know, Toshiba keys are placed in standard order of placement and I just got the Home, End, Delete, Pg Up and Pg Down easily with that notebook. but this Axioo one drives me crazy because I need to hit the fn key and left arrow key to get Home, and fn key again and right arrow to get the End. not to mention that they are left and right, not the up and bottom (which for PgUp and PgDown, with fn key). so everything need the fn key now. this is the second week and I'm still get trouble in remembering the key position since I don't always look at the keyboards when I type. huh ... why every brand always tries to place the order according to their own standard. it just drives me mad sometimes.

This is really a matter of patience and practice. I have used a myriad of keyboard types and I am fairly happy with most layouts. It is frustrating at first because you are accustomed to a specific key being in a certain place, but it should not take long to get used to the new format. The keyboards that I find difficult to use are the ergonomic ones. It may be a better system for comfort etcetera, but after using the standard type for so long they are strange in comparison.

I agree, the ergonomic ones are the hardest to adjust too. I've only tried one, but ugh! I know I'll adjust eventually. I've been on so many different keyboards before. It's just weird because I have the regular format at work and then the new one at home. Going back and forth is what throws me the most I think.

I bought a Do-It-Yourself PC and therefore I choose what sort of keyboard I want to use with it. I don't have the trouble of keyboards that are not to my liking or that are hard to use since I don't buy the whole package thingy like Dell or HP.. I did have a HP machine before and like you, the keyboard isn't very friendly to type on...But what can I do? I spent so much on the system and do I have to spend on a new keyboard too? But I make sure my new PC will not suffer this same fate

That's cool. Custom PC's are always nice. Since I was buying 3 for the family we didn't want to spend a whole ton extra just to get each one customized. I saw the package deal at Best Buy and jumped on it. At the time I saw that the keyboard was flatter, but I didn't notice the rearrangement of the Delete, Home and End keys.
