Well, just curious here... because i started my first job at the age of 16... as a crew in a fastfood chain... it was like one of the most horrible experience in my life...
Since i was very young then and i wanted to experience how it is to earn my own money... i saw the ad and applied and it lasted only a month... well it was the case of being over work and underpaid... and me finding another job that is more suitable for my age and needs... and that second job lasted for 4 months... because i decided to concentrate on my studies...
So how about you?...

I started working by the age of 19. Someone called me and want me to apply in a network marketing company, since the offer and the way they said was really tempting - I joined it immediately. However, it was really a horrible experience that I quit, not even reaching my ROI...

Yea, they are really darn persuasive! Haha... but I have to say though... I know the one I joined is not a scam, it's just too hard to start and make good bucks out of it.

I started my first job at 16 yrs of age. I was heading into my senior yr of highschool. It was also in a fastfood chain, and it was a horrible experience. But for some reason I stuck with it for 10 months. I guess I just didn't want my dad to think I couldn't handle holding a job.

Seems like fastfood chains have their way of traumatizing young workers... but i admire you for proving that you can last longer than they expect you to... i don't have that kind of courage when i was younger... thanks for the response... and welcome to mylot... i hope you enjoy every minute of your stay here...

I guess my first job was working for my dad (stamping brochures and sales flyers prior to boat shows and cleaning boats), although I got a paper route at age 12....it was okay, I guess. I then moved on to working as a phone operator (at age 15) for a phone service--I lasted two weeks before I quit! and then my first 'official' job--selling shoes for Kinney Shoes, a chain store in the mall. I loved it! I got a friend a job with me and although he tried to knock me out, I tended to be the 'sales person of the month' more often than not! That job lasted me from August 1988 through June 1989 and then I worked there again in 1989 to 1990 for a while. They're closed now, but I really liked working there in the mall (sock throwing!) Here's a webpage about the company: http://lt1957.pochta.ru/kinney.htm.

The store is closed now... that is just too bad... i would certainly feel sad if that would happen to the place where i enjoyed working at... i guess you are already a veteran when it comes to work at a very early age... i wanted to start that young but there were not that many available jobs around... thanks for the response...

What's worse--this is the second job that I've had where the company has gone out of business! I'm expecting two more to go out of business in the next five years (older ages of owners). My favorite job was working for the National Board of Medical Examiners--it didn't involve sales and gave me a feeling of being fulfilled! :)

My first job was at 14. My father was in the Air Force and we were stationed in England. During the summer months, I worked as a secretary on base. It was a really good way to get experience for when I came back to the United States and started working.

Wow... 14 is a pretty young age to get a nice office job... others are stuck with babysitting at that age... so i guess you were lucky back then... being trasferred from one base to another is also a way to get used to people from different walks of life... thanks for the response...

Hello aseretdd,
I never work after I finished my secondary school at the age of 17. I started my working experience after graduating from the university and that was like 12 years ago when I was 24. I worked at a bank though I graduated in Life Science. The longest company I have worked for is my present company which is my fourth job.

i was 11 years old and i started babysitting. i was very mature and very responsible so word spread fast and i had a real good thing going until i was 15 when i got my first real job. i paid for all my own clothes, shoes, make-up and albums and things like that. i never asked my parents for spending money. they did not have it to give to me anyway. i paid for my own car, gas and insurance and never asked for anything. self made. that's me. i always worked outside the home until 3 years ago.

You are another one of those who started work early... and at 11 years old... i think you are still qualified to be at home with a babysitter... parents must have seen that you are very responsible and hardworking... that is why they entrusted their kids to you... thanks for the response...

I had a paper route when I was twelve. I was downsized out of that position when the paper signed a contract with the post office for delivery by mail. At fourteen I went to work in a fudge shop (and paid for everything I ate...in more ways than one), at fifteen I went to work for McDonald's and the list goes on.

So... you are also one of those veteran workers who started very young... i wish i could have started work that young... but there were not that many jobs available in my country... i wonder if you ever made any money at the fudge shop... i am sure i won't since i wouldn't be able to stop myself from eating sweets... thanks for the response...

Well, a lot of companies prefer to hire those who have work experience... which i think is quite absurd... so a lot of new graduates often settle for jobs with low pay just to get the experience... but it is good that you are now in your third year in your current job... thnaks for the response... and welcome to mylot... i hope you enjoy yor stay here...

I've started working at the age of 17 after my high school year at a hypermarket selling apparels. It was just to gain some experience and get to know more about a hypermarket operations..As I was always a consumer so I would like to try serving others to see and learn what others react and so..
Was a short term job though, as I have to join college after that..

Wow, your reason for workin at that age is quite unique... others start working because of financial difficulties... but your reason was fueled by interest... did you take up a business course in college... because that would certainly be appropriate for you... thanks for the response and welcome to mylot...

I started when I was 17, I have to work to support my financial needs as a student. We were I'd say, in our "darkest times" during those days and I have to pull some strings out to hang on to college.
I also worked on food chains, that's where I got my first paycheck. It's really not that big, but it helped me some way as I try not to think of how much I got from it but to help me at that moment..

With fastfood chain appearing everywhere... more and more students and teenagers are getting employed... and i think that is a good thing... especially for those like us that need to work just to continue on with our studies... gone are the days when professional students rule...

I started my first job at the age of seventeen years. I guessed I was pretty young and inexperienced. Although it was a menial job and lowly paid, it was my first time at earning money.
Even though I did not enjoy the job, it did gave me my first experience about the working life. Now having worked for more than thirty years, I just wish I could start it all over again.

Hello! I got my first job when I was 19, a few months after I graduated from technical college. It was only a temporary job but it got me started off on the right foot anyway. I was working at the courthouse in a town about 20 minutes from where I was living. It lasted for about four or five months then I got a more permanent job. Great discussion!!

Yes I did that sort of work too, in addition to going to school, but I loved it! The work was hard and the pay little, but I gave it my all and every penny went into a big glass jar that started out with a few coins but grew enough to pay for my tuition and books and a place to live. I worked in food service my last two years of high school and my first two years of college. In the summertime I worked as a typist by day and in food service at night.
I liked the food service work better, but being a typist paid more, so after I got fast enough and could afford nicer clothes, a necessity for the higher paying typist positions, then I had to do office work to get through the rest of my university studies.

I started working at 15 babysitting- my parents didn't give me much money so I always worked for what I had- then I got used to the fact working sucks but the money doesn't. Even a little money is better than none, I have always done what I needed too to get by. I like working now that I'm older but then again I'm back in school so I quit working.

Babysitting is quite a lucrative and most available job for teenagers in the states... i would have done it but alas... i got only to babysit my younger siblings with no pay at all... it is nice to know that your attitude towards work changed as you grew older... i love work...as long as it pays good... thanks for the response...
