I just read a discussion...

They commented they started 40 discussions and actually made more than to respond to 40 discussions. Perhaps this is the way you make more money here on MyLot. However the hardest part is actually coming up with discussions to start that seem somewhat intelligent or interesting to answer. Your thoughts? Ainge

Actually, I am also wondering how to make more money in MyLot. 40 responses and 40 to start discussions seem quite a difficult feat to pull it on. I dont want to end up giving silly answers and asking stupid questions. It's bad for the reputation. Maybe I could start with 15 comments and 10 questions first.

I actually will tell you that starting 40 discussions a day will take up most of your time. I know that I just set a goal when I start and then just finish it. I am not here for the money but to network. Welcome to MyLot. Ainge

I am pretty sure someone has to respond before you get paid for starting a discussion. But don't hold me to that. I've been away for 6 months. I have been making way more recently than when I left.

I have found that specific questions do not usually get as many responses. A discussion titled "What are your tips to hybridizing Passiflora species?" is not going to get a lot of responses. When it is slightly changed it will apply to many more. "Hybridizing Passiflora species creating new beauty from old" Creates a little interest as well as allows people to submit their opinions. Sometimes silly questions work better. They are general and apply to many. I asked "Is it ok to say "No thanks I'll just take the money." when someone asks to buy you a drink?" =D I got a lot of responses for it. This is a good idea, keep a notebook with you so you can write down your ideas. I think of funny stuff all of the time but forget them by the time I get to the computer. TY. I'm glad you like my avatar. It is a hybridized Passiflora that I grew myself.

I'm content responding to discussions right now. What I earn is fine. It is difficult for me to start a decent discussion and hope for the best. My idea of a good or funny discussion is not always the way others read it. I could start 40 discussions in a day's time but the quality of the discussion might stink. It may not warrant many responses so in the longrun it would be a waste of time on my part. I need my brain stimulated with a discussion so I can make it work in the morning. I don't always have the time everyday to spend mega hours on myLot. I also work away from the house part time and am tired when I get home. Having a tired brain and trying to write a discussion doesn't always work for me. Could be age related but am not always willing to admit it..lol

It gets a little tougher to concentrate and focus on discussions as we age. I get distracted easier than when younger. I enjoy your discussions.

Funny and true. I very much agree with you, I at least had a decent discussion to start because of that discussion. I agree I don't have time every day to keep up with MyLot. Also after some of my discussions that have been important to share have been erased I feel like why should I bother. I am younger than you and I get to the point that I can't think either. So I think it is more of what we do on a daily basis and not the age. LOL Ainge

ohh, i did hear that starting discussions help you to earn money too but i had no idea that they were better than posting. the earnings i mean. but i too agree with you. coming up with good discussions is tough. thus, i rarely start topics. if you actually look at the discussions i've started, i bet i'm the one with the fewest discussions here. grins i could probably win hands down. but i don't mind since i enjoy posting to others' topics too. good day

I often just respond to discussions, I don't like to start discussions because often my get erased by MyLot. Apparently they don't believe in the 1st Amendment or would rather hear about Jenifer Astons Nipples instead of real discussions. Thanks for the posting. Ainge

Hi Aingealicia, I do agree with your point that it is difficult to come up with intelligent response or good and acceptable discussion. But the priority for most mylotters are to earn money. Am I right?

I tend to think that most start out for the money, then they find out the truth about what MyLot pays and find that this is a great place to meet people. Welcome to MyLot and thanks for posting. Ainge

I was surprised I had 3 pages to respond to on here. I try to respond to everyone that responds to me. I don't have the time or energy to do 40 discussions to be honest, so I just try to do what I can when I can. Thanks for responding and welcome to MyLot. Ainge

I don't think there is a solution to any thing on MyLot. I wish they would state how they come up with the way they pay but I am sure they won't. Thanks to both of you for responding and it was nice to hear from you. Ainge

i think that is the way to earn so much. but i think its really hard to start 40 discussions in a day and answering 40. still i know some people do so.but commenting all the responses for all those also is somthing really tough.

That would be great. But like you said, it's very difficult to think of "intelligent or interesting" discussions. I used to have a notebook that I always carried with me wherever I go and when something came up I would write it down. When I started with myLot, I listed about a hundred questions that I wanted to ask. However, when I started accumulating friends I saw my questions in their page LOL!

I can relate Ainge, I also wanted to earn more here on myLot but can't seem to find the right way. But I think I do now. And even if we just post questions we still need to type anyway to respond back to our responders.

Hi Aingealicia, Many just start some discussion as per the happenings of their neighbours, or friends or in their house. Some personal matters are also discussed in their forums. I feel awkward in writing about my personal life unless it is something normal. Not very personal things, I can never come out with them. I only reply to posts I feel comfortable with and may be that's why I don't get enough star rating.. But actually I don't mind.. I didn't come here for money, just like that I came, while posting and participating in some discussions if I get some money it is a bonus Right??

The trouble I find, is that due to the fact mylot has been going a while, a lot of good discussion ideas have been done. I wonder if it's worth the bother to think up original discussions, as few people stray from a handful of interests, so although there is probably a lot of discussions to be started in the various interests, it ain't much point if nobody answers them.

This is true, I have a few that are not answered. It almost sounds as if you are talking about coming up with the original sin. Ainge

Starting discussions seems a bit hit and miss for me. The one I started with the most response is one that I just typed out quickly to show my daughter about the site and itb got lots of replies. Others I thought about and tried to come up with a question people would want to give opinions on and it just fell flat. I look at some heavily subscribed discussions and they are all like "what kind of eggs do you buy" and "what sort of car do you drive", easy to answer. I'd hoped for some serious debating but I've not found where it is yet. Its probably there but maybe if you try in the pets section with something like "How fluffy is your puppy" you might find lots of people want to share that. Maybe a lot of folk are intimidated by something that requires a lot of thought to answer. I quickly realised that the money aspect of Mylot was just a little bit of a bonus, I'm more intio it for the chat now.

I agree, it is for the networking for me. Welcome aboard to MyLot. I find it hard to start discussions that stay on MyLot, I am a bit to controversial and believe in the 1st Amendment rights. Thanks for posting. Ainge

Ain't this the truth? I know for me, I find it a lot easier to come in here and answer other posts than to start a New discussion. Because usually a lot of my discussions I start stem from a discussion I have read on here, unless there is something really eating at me, that I am curious to see how others react with it. For me, I learn a lot about people when I respond to their discussions and I feel it is funner to learn about others when you respond to them instead of just reading their responses from things you have started.

Very good point. I like answering the discussions rather than starting them. This discussion stemmed from a discussion as you see. Thanks for responding. Ainge

I agree. For me it takes some thought just trying to come up with something intelligent that would interest other people. Its easy just to dash off some fluffy stuff that when you look back makes you wonder why you posted it but I would rather have fewer started discussions and know I was not ashamed of them.
