My family pictures get lost during the World War II. The older picture I have is picture of my grandmother from 1948. How old are your family pictures?

Hello polachicago!:-) The oldest picture in our family album is that of my grandparents just after their marriage in mid 1940s. It's black n White. They had other pictures too with portraits of my great grand father and his father but things got lost in migration. My father has resurrected them i.e. touching (as these pictures were a little damaged), coloring and enlargement etc and they are now in our living room and my parents' bedroom. And, they were quite a lovely couple, not only in picture but also actually. Though I couldn't see my grandparents, as such i.e. in my conscious life, but I have heard a lot about them from their friends who are also not alive now!

Mid 40's is not that old. Coloring and retouching old pictures is very rewarding....

My Great-Great Grandmother?? - image of one of my ancestors
I have quite a number of old photos of my family, like my grandmother, grandfather, and mother when they were children...but the real winners are the glass and tinplates of I guess my great-grandmother's mother..they look like something right out of the Civil War period--actually I'm not even sure if it is my great-great grandmother...but the timing would be right--I had often asked my grandmother and mother who the photos were of, but hadn't a clue either--then they were never keen on family history Scanned some of those old photos and here's one of them

We have the portraits of the family that immigrated to Canada to start the Melanson family blood lines of North America. From there we have portraits or pictures of every family member after that still in the family somewhere, either with my mom or with one of 2 aunts back in New Brunswick. Our family came to Canada from France to avoid being killed in the 1500's due to being Huguenots. During the English/French war over Canadian land the family slit up, some stayed in Canada and the rest headed south finally settling in New Orleans. After the war many of the original family that left came home again.

Some of the photos I have are from around 1900. The one of my grandmother is 1903. I have a few from the late 1800's of great-grandparents.

That's so sad. I think my dad has some pictures of my great-grandmother when she was a young lady (maybe 1880s or 1890s). Those would probably be the oldest for my family.

He has it in a frame on the wall. I found a picture of my grandfather on the Internet. He was trying to get Japanese soldiers to surrender on an island during World War II.

My mother has a photo of someone that is assumed to be a family member. The photo was taken somewhere in the late 1800's. We came to this conclusion because of the garment the woman is wearing. The woman appears to be a full-blooded Native American. It is said that somewhere in our family history, on my grandmother's side, one of our ancestors is Native American.

Well, I must say I'm very lucky here. I have several old pictures from late in the nineteenth century. I have a photo of my grandfather on his wedding day. He is seated with his bride and her two sisters (bridemaids) standing. The three sisters were the daughters of Sgt. Michael William Kennedy, who was in charge of the police chasing the most famous Australian outlaw, Ned Kelly. There have been many movies about Ned Kelly. In the most recent Kelly was played by Heath Ledger. In one made in the sixties, Mick Jagger played the part. My greatgrandfather was killed by Kelly in the Wombat Rangers, about 150 miles north of Melbourne. I also have a picture of my mother's mother taken in the 1890s.

Although I have a few of older photos from family that are from around 1940-1950.most of the pictures I have start around mid sixties. I do have one that is dated 1924 from my parents. Too serious as most pictures were at that time, but one that I treasure. My mom had even older pictures, some had to be copied because they were breaking apart. But those are from her own albums.

Yes, I fixed some that were so old there were parts of it we couldn't see that well anymore. I must say that when I said 1924 from my parents I meant from my mom's parents LOL I have never personally met this grandparents of mine but they seem familiar because I've seen the picture so many times :):)

The oldest photo that I have is a picture of my great-grandparents. I'm not sure how old it is but my grandma is almost 90 and it's a picture of her parents when they were just married.

I believe that the oldest picture in my family album is from the 1930's. But I am not completely sure, it might be from the forties. For years, Mom had a picture of her father when he was six hanging up on the wall, that was from 1910's I believe. I am not sure if she still has it or not.

How sad that they were all lost, some of mine got very damaged in a flood but others were saved so the oldest we have date from about 1900 which are of my Great Grandmother and some of her family. Over a 100 years old wow, I love them and I remember my Great Grandmother as she was still alive when I was a child. She was the double of the Queen Mother and such a regal lady. Ellie :D

I think the oldest family picture in my album is a picture of my grandmother, who would be 90, and her brother back when she was about 3-4 years old. Its very interesting to see how much things change and people.

Wow great question. I have pictures that go back to WWI... and have relics of my grandfather's brother who fought in the war but I don't know of any that go back any further than that. There are also family photos on my father's side showing my 93 year-old grandfather as a little baby so that is ~90 years ago. Great question (as always) Zelo

I had a look at some of my family photo albums yesterday and I found some photos that are dated back to the early 60s and they are all in black and white. I think pictures in black and white are nicer to look at and surprisingly compared to the new photos, those old photos hardly fade.

Hello dear polachicago. I think that the oldest photos in my family are those of my parents' which were taken in the year 1954 when they got married. This is the one that is still well kept in the family album. It is six years younger than that one of yours. Thanks.
