Has Someone Else Ever Written Your Book?

I'm not talking plagiarism. I'm talking about all you wanna be writers who got an idea for a book, but for some reason decided not to write it or kept putting it off. Have you ever suddenly found that someone wrote the exact book? That's happened to me a few times. The most recent one was just before I started this discussion. I had an idea about a book about Santa Claus' daughter a few years back but didn't write. Then, just now, I found someone wrote a book about Santa having a daughter. There were differences, but the basic idea was the same. I also thought of writing a book version of the Aesop fable, "The Tortoise and the Hare" and sure enough, someone beat me to the punch.
So, is it just me, or has anyone else said, "That's my book, but I didn't write it!"?

I've had this happen a few times..I am not surprised it happens...there are a lot of people & a lot of similar circumstances that could act as inspiration...I have one really really really good book idea I know I will never write, simply because I have no time. I wish I could sell my ideas, but don't know anything about that. I've got quite a few though!

True, people do get similar ideas. It's not so amazing when you see two books that are similar. I guess it's just a little more frustrating when you've rejected an idea and you realize someone else had the same inspiration and actually did something with it.
I don't know if there is a way to sell ideas, though.
