It depends on the hardware specifications of your PC...
You can first try to disable the startup programs that you do not need....Goto Start - Run 'msconfig' and look under Startup tab...
You can also increase the amount of virtual memory as well as defrag your hard disk and see if that helps..
If you tried the above methods and its still slow, you may want to add more memory and get a faster processor...

The performance of the computer depends on a lot of factor. The most important ones which will be discussing alike as follows
the empty space on the partition on which you have installed your operating system is very important. The more empty space you have in that partition the most swap space the operating system will have and it will result in better performance. The run of the computer is one integral part of the list. The other ones are like the prefetch folder which contains files of the ram. A lot depends on how many process in the background your computer is running even when it is idle. It depends on how much temp folder space is occupied. And then suddenly after some time when he used a computer I feel it becomes necessary to format the computer so that all the broken links and other straps are cleared and a fresh installation is made. The fragmentation is very important and that is the reason why you need to defragment you are computer every now and then

If you really want others to help you fix your problem, then you will have to be much more specific. What are the specs of your computer? What Operating System are you using? When exactly does the performance of your system decline? What programs are you running when slow downs occur? What anti-virus or firewall do you use if any? Please be as specific as possible about the problems that you are facing. Does your system slow to a crawl and hang when the problems arise?
