Have you done much travelling?

How many different countries have you visited? Have you enjoyed your experiences abroad? Are there some really funny situations that you can share with us? Did you feel homesick?
So far I have visited around 34 different countries and have lived in the UK, Italy, Spain, Australia, Costa Rica and I'm now living in the Dominican Republic.
The most incredible journey I did was to 5 different countries in 6 weeks. Left London and started the trip off in Moscow which was a fantastic city and then travelled on the TranSiberian train across the Russian plains (eating caviar and drinking vodka) to Mongolia where I stayed in a Ger hut and dined with the chief (I was told that this is a special privilege but I think they say that to everyone!). I rode a mongolian horse, drank mare's milk straight from the mare; took a train to China, saw the Terracotta army (amongst millions of other things); ate snake and bamboo rat (urgh); then went to Tibet - absolutely fantastic but suffered from altitude sickness (not fun!) and then went to Nepal which was breathtakingly beautiful. Stayed in a small village which was being attacked by a man-eating tiger, the soldiers went off on elephant to catch it which they did a day after we left. The bus journeys were a nightmare - zooming around those little trails as if they were highways! All in all it was just wonderful. Unfortunately the trip had to end and as my camera had a fault with its lens the 36 films I took, didn't come out very well... Lucky I had a friend with me and I could copy her photos!

I love to travel and so far I have been to 49 different countries and my favorite of these are Australia, New Zealand, Belize, Samoa and the Seychelles. The nicest cities that I have been to are Sydney, San Francisco, Prague, Budapest, Dubrovnik and Lisbon.
Your trip on the Trans Siberian Railway to China via Mongolia is one journey near the top of my wish list. I so enjoyed reading about your trip on this. It was a shame about your camera and lucky you were able to copy your friend's photos. I went around the world when I was 20. On a trip to New Zealand I took in the sights French Polynesia, the Cook Islands and Samoa. I have been on a safari in Kenya. In Belize I climbed Mayan ruins, stayed in a tree house and went on exciting cave adventure. I have been snorkeling with small sharks, sting rays, a manta ray and a turtle. I have seen dolphins, seals, penguins and manatees.

My goodness you have been around the world. I agree travelling is wonderful, such an exhilarating experience. I always thought that I would never forget certain places, memories etc., but as time goes by I seriously need those photos to remind me of some of the less exotic times! I love swimming with the animals too or going out to sea to see them in their natural envrionment (just went whale watching last month). They are such beautiful creatures.
I really want to go to Mexico to look at their pyramids. I've been to Machu Picchu and that was incredible, so were the Great Pyramids in Egypt.
I don't know if I can honestly say which is my favourite country or memory. There are so many!

Yes, I agree that traveling creates so many special memories. In Samoa I had such unusual experiences that will stay with me forever. The local people there were amazing and so very kind. I even met a village chief. I have favorite places and I like to visit even more interesting places that I have not been to before. Wow! It must have been magical to see Machu Picchu. I would so love to walk the Inca Trail. I have put in for a friend request.

Hi naseefu, thanks for replying. I know quite a few people who have visited even more countries, it is the age where we can go almost anywhere in the world, which is a fascinating place. I hope you get the opportunity to see some of it yourself!

I love travelling, it's true what they say it does broaden the mind, last year was the first time I went abroad on my own, it was scary and I am not a good flier! I have flown before but never on my own and it was ok, I surprised myself and it gave me a lot of confidence. I went to Rhodes somewhere I have always wanted to go. I had 2 weeks and I explored the beautiful island whilst I was there and loved it. I have also been to Cyprus, Canary Islands, Prague, Amsterdam, Berlin and would love one day to go to New Zealand, Sweden, and closer to home Southern Ireland. I have the travelling spirit in me.

I must admit that although I have travelled quite a bit that fear of flying seems to be growing each time I go up and down in a plane.
I have never been to Rhodes, they say it is beautiful. Cyprus too. A friend of mine lived in the Canary Islands and thoroughly enjoyed herself. She said it was a bit like living on the Spanish mainland (where I lived for 3 years).
I have been to Ireland it was beautiful (and wet!! - with the Guiness as well as the rain). The people are just so wonderful, you'll love it.
Keep travelling, you can meet some really fantastic people whilst you're abroad. I still have some really good friends -I don't see them often although we can 'talk' online now, some of them go back nearly 20 yrs (eekkk, I didn't want to know that!). :)

I have travelled to a few countires and most of them are in africa. I have been to tanzania, ethiopia, kenya and Dubai. I liked Dubai and ethiopia a lot. Dubai I don't like the weather that much as its very hot over there but rest everything is great there. I liked the markets there and the shopping malls. They are amazing. Yes I do feel homesick. I use to miss my mom a lot since she was not with me but I has fun.

Glad to hear that you had fun travelling around Africa. I have a lot of respect for you doing that. Africa now seems so dangerous, where life can be incredibly cheap. I would love to visit the rest of the African continent (I have only been to South Africa and Egypt). Maybe I will do it one day?!?!
