Why would someone from another country want to buy used shoes in the US?

This isn't about ebay but another auction site I sell on. I listed a couple of pairs of sandals that my granddaughter wore one time last summer. Their in perfect condition and I'm only asking $2.99 for them which would be a good price if you lived in the US because you have to consider postage. I received an email from a woman in Italy asking me about them and wanting more pictures and asking the postage to her! I didn't even check the cost to send them to Italy from the US because postage just in the US is high enough. I can't imagine overseas shipping! Why would anyone from another country want to buy used shoes? I would think the cost of shipping alone could get her a pair of used if not new sandals where she lives right?

I was in Canada during the 1980s taking French classes. I looked at a pair of sandals with one strap broken, they were on sale for 50 dollars. That mortified me. Right now the American dollar/exchange rate is so poor that the cost of the sandles and the postage is probably like 50cents. I'd want them, too if I were her.

The only thing I could think of is maybe they don't sell those kind of shoes there. I always mark on my ebay auctions that I will only ship to US I will not ship out of country it is to expensive and to much trouble with customs and everything. I have ordered from other countries though without any problems.

Oh oh...I smell some kind of scam going here...did this person contact you "off" of the auction site..that is not the site directly???? .that is did this auction site forward this email to you from this person
I once got an email forwarded to me from ebay about this person who was from here in America that wanted to send a special gift but anonymously to a "cousin" in Russia and liked the necklace I was selling..he wanted to send that...not only that but he was going to forward me funds in form of a Western Union to also give as an anonymous gift...in other words everything traceable would only be in MY name not this person's..for all my "trouble" he was going to pay me something like a few HUNDRED bucks for this favor...the item I was selling was only $15.00
Definitely not something right here--ignore it

I don't think the cost is as much as you think to send it by post. I sent a computer disk, by normal mail, to Germany and it only cost $3.00 to send it. So I don't think a pair of sandals are very heavy so it shouldn't cost more than $5.00. You could send them in a brown envelope like regular mail. So if it costs $5.00 for postage and $3.00 for the sandals that is only $8.00 which to her could be cheap enough. Maybe they cost a lot more there.
Maybe the lady loves the sandals and she can't get the same ones where she lives. Who knows what the styles there are like, maybe they are so different then here.

Yeah, you're right and that's odd...I know shoes from Italy are of good quality, why does she prefer to buy a second hand sandals from the U.S.?

That certainly does sound strange, ctry, especially when you consider that Italy is supposed to be famous for their high quality of shoes, lol. It's hard to know what motivates people to do anything these days, but maybe the sandals had a special appeal to her.
