I admire eople with excellent cooking skill. It amazed me how they can mix all those ingredient and produce tasty meals. I personally don't have good cooking skill. I usually make my own recipe. Do you agree that the best recipe is no recipe? Tell me, when you preparing food, do you have your own recipe or do you copy other's recipe?

You are right! The best recipe is no recipe. I cook from scratch and whatever that is available. Its kind of an experiment when cooking. You just have to know what mixes well with what, and you're all good. And I do sometimes copy, but not the recipe. Because I can never copy the recipe's in the restaurants. I copy the taste. And when I taste it, I can taste the ingredients in it, and when I am at home cooking, I can cook it for my family and friends.

You must be a good cook. I know someone like you who only taste the food and she knows what ingredients in it. I wish I have your skill in that area.

Thanks! I really love cooking and would have pursued it if my parents have allowed me to. Now, I only cook for my family and during special occasions. I guess if you really want to learn how to cook you have to start with tasting the food. hehe

I will try that. It is a good way to "steal" someone's well guarded family recipe, lol.

Since I feel I'm still learning a lot about how different ingredients can come together in tasty ways, I'll often start with a recipe to give me a basic idea. I'll generally always change the spices and minor ingredients, like adding mushrooms or cheese or something to accent it.

Sometimes I do that, copy from a recipe and adding additional stuff in it. I end up having a not so good taste food.

I love cooking. I do look for good recipes, & then vary it of necessary. As my husband is gluten free & can't have high level salicylate foods, I have to do quite a bit of variation. So you could say that I do a combination of both with recipes.

I love to cook and try new recipe's of my own I love to experiment new things in cooking and sometimes I like to try to cook food that I already ate in a restaurant. I'm not very fun of looking in a recipe book coz sometimes the ingredient are not available or to expensive. So I preferred to serve food that suits my budget.

Dear Ellie, Everyone can be a good cook. You have to have the interest for it. If you want to learn cooking, try to analyse what you eat. You can understand the taste, like salt, pepper, chilli, sour ( tamarind, vinegar or lime juice , sometimes raw mangoes ) etc. You can pick them out. Learn to mix and match. Some ingredients go with some and some don't.. When you hear all these you'll get confused. But it is easy when you put your mind to it. Another main point is that you should love cooking. Do not cook just for cooking sake. It is not a duty to perform.. Love is one major ingredient in cooking.. The best cooks you have seen will be the best mothers too , if you have noticed..

Sorry Ellie, I seem to have got the question wrong.. I actually don't follow all the recipes as they are written down, not even mine. I change them according to the time and the ingredients available. Basic taste should be the same. First when you learn try to follow all the steps properly. You can also be one great cook..
