I have an addiction. I am addicted to collecting odd and unusual board games. I have a huge collection with 40+ games. Even so I am drawn to buying moreand more games. I do play the games, but I have so many that I don't play them all the often. Anyone else addicted to collecting games? How big is your collection? What are the jewels of your collection?
My "jewel" is the World of Warcraft board game - it is a beautiful game, great to play (although it takes HOURS) and lots of fun. Other favorites include The Hobbit, Munchkin and Pirates of the Cursed Seas. I of course have many more traditional games too, but the odd and unusual are my passion.

I went to the basement for a quick count and gave up at 200. I have a fourth of the basement devoted to my games, mostly 80's and 90's. I don't collect for value, but I have occassionally sold games for profit. My collection was founded by my favorites as a kid and exploded by my yard sale and thrift store addiction. Anything selling for 1-3 dollars is fair game whether I'll ever open it or not. My personal favorites are still the ones I played as a kid, but my "crown jewels" are rare 70's wargames. I continue to look for games based on TV shows, but collectors are starting to gobble those up.
I'd love to have World of Warcraft, it looks awesome, as does the new Age of Empires III board game, but those are pricey and I can't get that lucky at my thrift stores! I've got my kids old enough to play Axis & Allies and Shogun with me, so I'm pretty psyched about those in my collection right now.
Good Luck!

I never collected old or vintage board games, but can remember the many nights I spent as a child playing games with my family. We would always have board game nights and I used to like having a way to enjoy being with my family.

heathcliff - that's an amazing collection! I have not done much purchasing at garage sales yet, but this summer I'm going to have to take a peek at what I can find :) I really lucked out on the World of Warcraft game. I was at a convention and they had a draw for everyone who played the demos of the games they had there. I won the WoW game in the draw. We've only played it twice so far. After 5 hours of play we still were only 2/3 of the way through!

That's an awesome door prize! Hopefully I'll be able to save up for one of those big "war" games this summer. The last game I spent real money on was a multi-player version of Stratego, so my kids wouldn't have to take turns against me.
I used to have a running competition with some friends about who could find the weirdest game for under $3.00. Maybe I should throw that challenge out there on the internet?
