One Of Those Weird Observations: Do You Do This Too?

First of all I admit to being a computer junkie and geek...I've only had my own computer for a year now, where prior I had to rely on the computers at a library or go to an Internet place. I DO love computers, and love mine. But I have to admit...one trait of mine, even when I didn't have my own computer, is to be, uh, rather "vocal" with my computer...I mean I can spew out obscenities that would make a truck driver blush..Hehee. One time, over a year ago, while in the internet place, I was annoyed at myself cause I just wasn't getting things done right at the computer and out came a babel of "words"--sitting next to me at the internet place I went to, was one of the "regulars" and he heard me and said..."Let me know when the computer talks back to you."Well, thank goodness my computer can't talk back to me, otherwise it would no doubt be dishing out the same obscenities to me.
But here's another observation I've made about myself when I'm at my computer. Say I'm busy typing out something...now I like to do things rather fast..and I do type fast...but sometimes it seems I'm not typing as fast as I like and I'm making one typo after another after another...and here's what I do...instead of typing out things lightly on the keyboard, in my frustration I'm like pounding away harder...I mean it's a wonder some of the keys on the keyboard don't break, that's how hard I'm banging at the keys---and I realize how DUMB this is...like the letters aren't going to type out any better or faster by banging away harder on the keys...like why the heck do I do that?
So do any of you do this too? Besides maybe spewing out obscenities at your computer when things aren't working right...do you also pound at the keys harder? Or what other lovelies do you do when your annoyed at the computer, uh, short of throwing it out the window....come on..fess up.:)

Two Macs ago, (a PowerPC) my computer DID talk back... that is... it would sing the error messages in a dirge-like voice. I miss that. I can't remember where I got the program, though.

Technically speaking my computer really does talk to me, but only to remind me something like "Attention...firefox needs your attention." or some such thing...think I'll fall off my seat though if it decides to tell me to go to..uh, well somewhere

Oh I would never spew obsenities at my computer or treat it rough in any way - it's my best friend and if I lose it I'm .... out of luck. Seriously though I do talk to my computer - tend to ask it a million questions a day like it's going to just right out tell me the answer, agree with me, or tell me I'm totally off base.

LOL - sometimes I think my favorite saying is 'ok, knock it off' - the other day when the grandkids were here I was concentrating on something and took a deep breath. My 2 year old granddaughter asked me 'Grandma tell it to knock it off' - you know she's heard me say that more than a few times :)

LOL I do talk to my computer. Not always obscenities, I like to be sarcastic with it sometimes too hehehehe
I don't usually bang on the keyboard, though, I tend to stay one step bellow physical abuse LOL
I remember just last week my daughter was coming up with some friends, and there I am having a monologue with my computer. I was just asking it " Are you trying to be funny? Hub? Because you're not" and one of the kids thought I was talking to him LOL

That's funny. Since I'm alone well except for my kitties I have free range of talking, yelling, having monologues with my computer..was different when I went to the library or internet place...I sometimes had to bit my lips from yelling out too loud when I made a mistake on the computer...had a lot of chapped lips then..LOL

We're on the same page with this one, pyewacket. I'm also lucky that my computer is in no position to retaliate against me for the abuse I sometimes heap upon it, lol. These inanimate objects do tend to sometimes bring out the worst in us. I think that if mine could talk back to me it would tell me to stop spilling snacks into the keyboard so often.

I blame this type of behavior, which I do indulge in, on my father (may he rest in peace). He used to talk to cars and trucks; I talk to computers and vending machines (ok, talk is a polite way of saying what I do).
And yes, I pound the keyboard when I get upset. That I blame on starting out on a really old Royal typewriter; it weighed a ton, not portable at all. I also pound it when the words are flowing really well. Again, I blame it on that old typewriter.

I started off with a manual Smith-Corona in which the keys had to be pounded hard to make it work...Since you and I are both writers...wonder if pounding at the keys in anguish when things aren't (or are) typing out fluidly is a writer's trait..

I looked at your other response above where you mention that you were considering smashing your old computer...my, my....from the looks of your avatar you look like such a calm, peaceful person...hehee...And honestly, if some people heard my "sweet" language they might really make new conclusions about me too...

Over the years, I have mellowed out. I used to have quite a temper, very explosive, much like my parents. I had to learn to control it when I became a restaurant manager. It is much improved. But despite learning control and mellowing out, there are still days when I am spitting out bad words as I try to get the computer to do what I want it to do.

I am so glad someone else does that stuff on their computer. I toohave a tendency to talk to my computer especially after I have made a zillion typos in a row. this really ticks off my scientific bent computer nerd son who says thats an inaminate object and cussing is not going to get you anywhere. As if I did not know that already. I have pounded my mouse out of frustration a few times which again drew a rebuke from computer nerd. Hey watch out you'll break the thing. to which I answer urgh or something like that.

Yes, I know "logically" it doesn't make sense to cuss out at the computer or pound the keys harder..as if that is going to make the typing better...Oh, and yeah, while I might not pound at my mouse I certainly do yell at it too...LOL

these are natural tendencies but if you are aware of it then it takes a bit of discipline and practice to pound on your keys by just touching it .it would help if you buy a different kind of keyboards like the ones that looks like a laptop keyboard.

No... I don't do any of this...
I always had a great respect for my computers and I am very patient with them.
That is probably due to the fact that I started with a 286 computer which only had a 20Mb hard disk and 2Mb memory.
When you start at the bottom... you get to appreciate everything you get.
Even now... I have a 2001 Pentium 4 with only 1.7Ghz processor... and because I am in the bush... I am on dial up with a connection of 26Kbs.
But I am cool, calm and collected.
When I first went on the net in 1997... my modem was 14.4Kbs. I did manage then... why should I not manage now?
Trust me... you will soon need a new keyboard. You are lucky that they are dirt cheap.

No the condition of my keyboard isn't bad..actually good..like I said you should see the video of that kid...the thing I will need will be a better mouse...my mac computer comes with Macs famous "mighty mouse"--uh, no it's not so mighty...regular pain in the "a" if you ask me...LOL

I do not do that. If I make a mistake, then I have to do it over again, I switch from typing in the myLot box to typing it on note tab or on word and copying it. I have slight dyslexia so that I am always typing at least one word with two of the letters reversed and since I know that, I know that when I start to type the first letter wrong, I have to delete that and fix it up. I do not pound on my keyboards, or swear or do anything like that. Now I am a fast typist, but I would rather fix the errors before the work is finished.
Oh if the computer does not work, I will blame the isp or the cable, check the cable box, pull out plugs, reinsert them, ask if my husband's computer is online, turn off the computer, fiddle with the cords again, and then call the cable company.

Well naturally I always correct my mistakes...I guess my anger at times is that since I have so many things to do each day/night in front of a computer I like to try to do them as fast as possible to give some kind of equal time to all my tasks.

Does threatening count? I threatened my pc with bodily harm if it doesn't quit messing up...of course it's me that's messing up but it's easier to blame the pc. I don't swear at it b/c I'm not much for swearing but I do the whole hammering of the keys sometimes LOL

Yup, dunit, dunit, dunit. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I've also caught myself patting the keyboard and apologizing. Then I quickly look around to see if anyone is watching. I have also assigned it a gender and it is female. When it gets tempermental it reminds me of myself. Seeing how I'm the one making the mistakes, that would only make sense.

Thankfully the only ones who get to hear my rantings are my two kitties, although can't help wonde if when I particularly vocal my neighbors hear me..LOL Mmmm.....have you named your keyboard? Yes, I think I should assign my keyboard a female gender and it would definitely reflect my tempramentality

I think anyone who has ever used a computer, let alone owned one, knows what you are experiencing, and they do the same thing. I know I certainly do. The key is, not to swear in the languages of the people near by. LOL My husband and I taught eachother how to swear in our own native languages, and that works well. LOL
I also have an old "stress ball" in the shape of a computer. I wore that thing out YEARS AGO! LOL

WEll I dont cuss like a sailor but I do cuss at the puter ever so often.
and yup I do tend to pound the keys I think its from the typerwriter days and some times ya really had to hit those keys hard to make them print.
and then there are the keys that stick I sure pound them then so as for them not to stick and keep the letter coming outttttttttttttt like that wehn this happens I take a pen and try t p flip it with the pin to unstcik it then have to do alot of deleting.lol.

Yeah, I think my pounding at the keys goes back to my being still used to the idea of typing at a typewriter...my first was a manual Smith Corona and I had to pound the keys real hard...that trait never left me--gee, wonder if some of the "younger" folk would even know what a typewriter is?

I do tend to "talk" to my computer - even at work... But I don't bank on the keys any harder. I do type pretty loudly anyways and it used to annoy the heck out of my son. But lately I have noticed that he types pretty loud too!!!
I have had the letters on the keys disappear, and I do have marks on the keys from my fingernails (they aren't long, but they are in constand contact with the keys).
That's probably enough abuse for my computer, I don't know that I would dish out any more than that.

My husband has asked him who he thinks types faster - me or him. We seem to make so much noise that you know we gotta be typing all kinds of stuff!!! My son has answered "Mom hits the backspace key more than I do". That's very true!!!! I can hit that backspace key like nobody's business!

LMAO! I absolutely do do those things!!!
Another thing that I do a lot is bang my mouse when it's not working properly or if something is driving me crazy with my computer. Whether it's the wireless connection messing up or it's running slow do to my overloading it's brain - it doesn't matter LOL.
