Have you looked at any of your children's text books lately? Having a problem helping them with their homework? Are you wondering what the heck "cluster", "lattice" or "fuzzy" math is? Well, I found a great video on YouTube that tapes an actual education board meeting explaining exactly what is going on with today's educational standards and how you can help your child in this new age: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5IAqsrMpaLE Parents, if you really want to help your child reach his or her academic goals, I urge you to watch this video!

I don't have any young children anymore, when my son was of school age, he refused to do homework with me, it was like a fighting match, so I let him do his own thing sometimes pointed out that there was a mistake and he would go back and find the mistake and check it on his own. Forget math and I have been mortal enemies from the get go, I am a very humble person and math thought he was quite a number.

That's quite funny! Actually, I am good at math and when my son was in school I did at time have a problem trying to figure out the "new" math. Since then, math, English, history and a host of other subjects have now been phased in with a new curriculum that doesn't teach our children anything at all. If your son now has children in school, please tell him he needs to take a closer look at the text books in use. No doubt, you have heard the grumblings, in some school districts there is over a 50% drop-out rate, "kids are dumber than ever", "kids just aren't learning anything today", "kids are failing there tests". I beg you to send him and all parents you know to the above web-link. You will be amazed and alarmed!

I am having a look at your link right now. My daughter is very good at maths, but last year she lost her confidence a bit, as she was away sick & missed too many maths lessons. She has increased her confidence somewhat this year, as she has an excellent maths teacher. I have the video up but can't listen to it yet as the kids are watching a movie.

Jenny, don't you live in Australia? I don't know if this applies outside the U.S.; but just in case take a closer look.

I didn't get a chance to view it yesterday due to the kids having the TV on (noise problem). I got half way through this morning & gave up, as it was going far too long. I gather the women was replacing outcome based education. They have been trying to inflict this on our system for quite some time. As I have two teenagers in high school, same age, but different year levels, i can see that one has to work & hard & learn to even have a hope of getting an A. The other only has to turn up at the lessons & look interested to get an A . Which type of student is a university going to accept? Needless to say I favour a more traditional method, within reason. This gives me a good idea for a discussion. Sorry If I am off track here.

The only homework I have trouble helping with is my eldests French and that is because I took German and Russian and know very little about French! I haven't heard of these terms but I know teaching is very different in our countries! I am always interested in what is happening in education though and I will follow up on this link soon! xxx
