American Idol? Would you ever?

So lately I've been singing more, as I do the dishes, or take a shower, or I'm in the car, you know the typical places to sing. People keep telling me that I sing well and should try out for American Idol. I laugh and tell them No way! There's no way I could take all of that criticism on something that I'd be working so hard at. Or what if I am just one of those people who everyone tells that they sing good but then they actually don't? How embarrassing would it be to walk into the audition room where everyone laughs at you and tells you that your friends are on crack?! What about you - would you (or have you ever) tried out for American Idol? Why or why not?

You should find someone experienced and ask for a critique. Maybe book a singing lesson and just ask the teacher to critique you. Be honest as to your goals/ideas and tell them to not hide anything. If I were young enough I would have tried out for Idol. I can't now though - from their standards I am ancient :p

This sounds like a good idea, but I live about an hour or more away from anyone who even offers singing lessons. I pretty much live in the middle of no where, and I'm not sure I'd have the confidence to show up and just ask for a singing critique haha. But it's a good idea!

I didn't, but my daughter has tried out for American Idol. She tried out in 2005. It was a lot of fun. Now she didn't get picked to go in front of Paula, Randy and Simon, but it was an experience she will never forget or regret doing. I am very proud of her for doing that and she now sings kareokee (spelling) on Saturday Nights.

If I can sing like Beyonce, why not?!
